I love you, Daddy. :) Happy Father's Day, early.

Poem Artwork

My first love
was Daddy in the summer:

smelling of sweat
and grass clippings
after mowing the lawn.

My first love
was Daddy in the fall:

smelling of firewood
and cigarettes
after splitting logs.

My first love
was Daddy in the winter:

smelling of the snow
and hot coffee
after shovelling the drive.

My first love
was Daddy in the spring:

smelling of good clean soil
and sunshine
after roto-tilling the garden.

My first love
will always be my Daddy.

Beautiful Tribute Karla

Charming, yes, but, oh, Karla, how you collapsed me entirely with your child-like voice. I never lost sight of Karla, the grown-up here and that is the voice that spoke so beautifully and sensitively to my heart.

As my eyes filled up, reading this, I realized that there was a soft and gentle reminder that life, itself, is like the seasons. I must keep this in my library. I simply cannot imagine losing track of this sweet, brilliantly layered piece of touching poetry. I'm rambling, I suppose, but I'm still under your spell. (smile) I hope you don't mind, but I will read this to my dad on Father's day. He will cry... I'll join him. Sigh.... thank you, dear heart. katy xox

Guess we are all Daddy's girls at heart - and so it should be! Those of us who have never known one are looking for surrogates all over the place, I reckon, to fill that yen... however old or young we are! Father God is great, but flesh and blood to give and receive a few hugs now and again wouldn't go amiss for any of us... this is a most beautiful and touching tribute, Karla - and spoken from the true heart of Daddy's little girl... Bless you, take care. LOL Kate xx

I was a daddy's girl too and my daddy gave us all so many fond memories. He was a good man and looked after his family first. This is truly a wonderful write.

This was so good to read. Your dad was the kind I always wished for but didn't have. I got to spend a year with my father before he died though and I treasure those happy moments. You're blessed.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful words.

(((Karla)))

Thanks for this nostalgic, image-filled write; daddy is indeed special and worthy of a tribute like this! There is no truer love than that between a daughter and her father; and you have captured it beautifully! Well done; brava!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin, Karen Lynn. :D

So very true, Karla. Our dad was the first man we ever loved. Some were good and some were not, but either way, our love for them set us up for the way we regarded love with men in the future. I was crazy about my dad, too. I would have done anything to make him happy.
Take care,
Sherry
