"Wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:..." (MATTHEW 7:13) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ With the arrival of the dawning sun, my love for you rose in the eastern sky; I had heard you from far off distances as you recited your poetry in drumbeats that vibrated deep within.
My love swelled to dangerous proportions within the walls imposed by my heart; walls built as a defense against past hurts and disappointments came crashing down, leaving me exposed and vunerable:
(How could I compete with the memories of failed love from the past and watch the whores who gasped when you let them touch your pen, who fondled the words dripping from it, who encouraged you with kisses of fire?)
You will never see me in the background; I am invisible, words, unsaid; I didn't have the courage to approach; I left before I cast a shadow on the road to destruction before me.
It is better to dream of meeting you instead of getting my heart broken ... so, I'll be content reading your words, watching the sun ascend in the east, and pray to God that you won't die from AIDS. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Karla,
This one of those writes that leaves the reader speechless...It took them on a journey with many paths, but in the end, led them, straight to where the author wanted them.
Excellent!
This is one of the most heartfelt, passionate poems with a fresh uniqueness that I truly admire. Well done my friend and I envy the person you speak so highly of.

The last line comes right out of the blue. And I wonder why? I wonder also if this is a reference to Africa in some way? The poem leaves many questions unanswered. I particularly like 'as you recited your poetry
in drumbeats'.
Powerful, gutwrenching, hard-hitting poem that grabs and doesn't let go. That last line is especially shattering...WOW! Terrific write; keep it up!! Your writing is on *FIRE*!! BRAVA!!
