Poem Artwork

i can't think of a
single thing
to write about; the
words refuse
to come...is this how
poets die?

the rhyme, the meter
are not there;
and forget about
the style
and form...is this how
poets die?

my pen has run out
of ink and
inspiration got
lost along
the way...is this how
poets die?

my mind is as blank
as the page
i am looking at;
lack of words
scares me...is this how
poets die?

Wow Karla
If this is what you call lack of inspiration
I am speechless,
this Jewel of a poetically composed masterpiece
left me at awe
thank God I was wandering in the Dan today
Now I can say...." I read a Masterpiece today"
Love & Peace be with you

A very well written piece

Hi Karla....hmmmmmmm....maybe not die, but perhaps go dormant for a short time? Sometimes the mind just cannot unlock the thoughts letting them flow freely through the hand onto the blank page. Although, I think you did a right nice job of squeaking out a few words!

Poetry is not attempting to write something that is aimd at pleasing the reader or for the lust of public praise. It does not reqire Rhyme or metre necessarily. To ink the spontaneous ideas thatrun with the speed of the waves of the sea!Writing a poem is like the butterfly roaming on the flowers for nectar. Nice thought provoking idea.

Karla,
"Blank Verse" is an excellent poem, and it reminds me that some of the best poetry is indeed written without rhyme,or a specific meter such as iabmic pentameter and the like.
No,I don't believe poets die when we write in blank verse;we become more animated, more liberated beings.
I love this poem!

The repeat stanza flows well and the meaning to your words are give in full view for the reader to understand the difficulty at the moment with words, but I believe there's just a period of r&r and start where you left off... The only time we die as poets is the time when our words no longer want to be read by others or ourselves... in any case your words are being hear loud and clear...

An excellent portrayal, of the desperate questioning we might obsess, when we find our thoughts consciously stagnant, but, in not knowing, it really isn't...therefore, knowing...die? we never will! lol

Dear Karla,
Muses are a fickle bunch. They come and go at times of their own choosing without a thought to how they leave us stranded with they aren't around. It's a terrible feeling to want to write and not be able to. When a poem is ready it will come to you. They seem to have their own time table. In the midst of your frustration this one came to you and wonderfully crafted it is. Write on dear poet.

And you have found the creator's liberation by "penning" verse to your writer's block. A unique not often used solution.
I wonder: when we all go dry at times, if we actually go back to ink and paper might that help? It's those dirty keyboards perhaps that "cage our poetic bird of flight" - just a thought, couldn't resist your fine title... later, michael

When the words seem to disappear, it just means it's time for the poet to listen. It's the balance of what we do: write, listen, listen, write.

You can write about anything, and yet you make it sound fresh and original! Very good write about a common problem we writers/authors face in our craft; no, your muse is NOT dead; she is very much alive! May your muse forever burn bright, and may you keep that pen a flowin'! As long as you write, you know you will have people who read and review you! (Hopefully you will get more reviews; you deserve 'em!! *grins*)
