The cool jazz of mourning stirs my coffee and moves my feet to a second line beat - I'm tired of feeling like this. I wanna go back to the city I loved/worked in/ and O yes, played - I gave that city everything I had in me, let it take what it wanted from me and I'd gladly do it again - O to be home where I belong, to be among my people where I was free to be me, free to be, free - I sit here, singing the blues in my head and dream once more of my beloved New Orleans.
Bravo! Although I teared up when I saw the picture and then cried again when I read the poem. Don't worry. It's a good thing. :-) You've written an exceptional poem, Karla.
Great poem Karla! I'm sure you capture what all of those who have yet to return are going through. So sad to think in many instances they will never go back. God forbid if this season is like last that will be unimaginable! Compassionate write!
A sad, bluesy write; you write as though you were born there! Even though you are a Native "Buckeye", N'Awlins made a deep impression on you. I can feel it in your words (and hear it in your occasional Cajun-spiced accent LOL)! Excellent write; very well done! BRAVA!
(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin sister, Karen Lynn. :(

It's a wonder you left if it was all that. I have had good times AND bad times there. There is nothing quite as sad as waking up with the blues each and every morning in a city gone mad with pleasure.
A passionate and poignant memoir written by a woman whose life has been guided by the words: "I am here to learn how to love well." The book is a deep examination of relationships, family, motivation, and honoring of the Self.
TRUE STORY. Bella survived an abusive powerbroker father with organized crime ties, a drug-addicted mother and a physically/sexually abusive brother. Shocking & inspirational. When she couldn't cry, she tattooed a crying angel to cry for her.
Love and many hugs, Birgit and Roger
