He was a friend. He was gentle and kinnd in one moment and then...the bottle took him away from everyone he loved. He was so gifted and loved but it wasn't anough once he lost his true love. He is missed gravely in my heart but he died flying and that was his love for the moment.I actually met him at Lake Orange near Beaumont. We talked a lot about flying.
He was a sublime poet, Karla. My wife was a huge fan and I always enjoyed his music. But his words.... Ah, there was his real magic. He was special and he will never die because his words and music will live forever.

I'm a HUGE John Denver fan! I was fortunate enough to see him in concert twice ... once with his band and once all by himself. He was an outstanding musician. Have you ever seen his Wildlife concert on DVD? It's awesome! My all-time favourite Christmas show was John Denver and the Muppets Christmas but I can't find it anywhere on DVD. Your poem is a nice tribute to a true Superstar.

Some thought him hokey etc. But I always found in him the true beauty of the earth he sung about.
I had the pleasure of seeing him in a nightclub in Denver when he was just getting started. Still sent chills through my body with that magnificent voice of his.

Thanks for remembering. One of my characters in my first book sang John Denver songs while riding his motorcycle in the Rockies. Not sure if you heard of this, but ..."Rocky Mountain High," the John Denver ballad unofficially thought of for decades as Colorado's state song, was recently elevated to that status by Capitol lawmakers. The 1972 tune about Colorado's "cathedral mountains," starlight and clear blue lakes now shares the spot with "Where the Columbines Grow," adopted in 1915.
His childlike innocense in song and deed was an inspiration for all to look at the world in a different and less cynical light...great tribute to him Karla.

Ohh, Karla...I always thought *I* was his #1 fan! Yes, he sure is missed. I loved how your poem mentioned how his music allowed you to travel, if only in your mind....same here. I could just feeeeel the mountains and smell the pines. :)
