St. Patrick's Day holds little joy for me - my Mom died March 17, 1990. :(

Image (c) 2006, Karla Dorman

Poem Artwork

Home from running errands, my
sister in law's last words lingering
in my ears - she's gone - she's gone -

to a better place?  What better
place without her here?  My heart
is broken - she's gone - she's gone -

Now the messy business
of tying up loose ends while mine
are unraveling - she's gone - she's gone ...

I wasn't ready to let her go -
been eighteen years, and it's still
hard to believe that she's gone - she's gone -

I miss you, still -

I too, know the pain Karla, my Mum left me three and a half years ago, and the pain is still raw. The above poem is heart rending, we are never ready to let our Mothers go...The never ending circle of life. I feel sure she is with you still with an arm around your shoulders comforting you like Mom's always do, and so moved by your words. It is a beautiful tribute of your Love for your Mom. I shall light a candle on the 17th for her. Love, Diana.

Karla, this is my all time favorite poem of yours! I love the repetition that haunts this piece and echoes into my own heart. I don't think I will ever get used to those words. I so frequently have to remind myself of the same thing... Oh, that our moms could have lived forever with us, right? But... at least they can watch over us from where they are.

Love and hugs,
Cryssa

Bloody heck, st P's day must cause you angst, but it's an over rated day, but must smash home the sadness of losing the most perfect person in you life... May you find perpetual inner peace before you join your mum.... Babe you have had one hell of a ride on this planet... But you are a most wonderful lady, and a heart worth more than anything on earth...

It's good that she is forever in your heart, today i was weeping over my son and things said, untrue, that I can't say here.... But you're in my arms in prayer, I know your soul will feel it...

Lady K,

The gaiety thrumming around you and the burden of loss heavy in your breast, you will bear another of these days. No, no platitudes. They don't get easier, they just get common. Close your eyes and think of her smile and be free of grief - if only for that moment.

Peace dear lady,

We are never really ready, so heart touching Karla, this line "of tying up loose ends while mine are unraveling" says so much.

Thanks for putting into words a feeling that is Universal with at least some of us - My feelings exactly when I get to April 22, which will no doubt be a fine spring day which will only increase that deep pain I will try to keep invisible. It has only been 3 years but will always be etched in my mind & heart like yesterday, AND we are never ready because we are never meant to be serpated from our family loved ones for long... (and Jesus meant that!)

I do not think we ever get over missing our mothers, there is no date, no way of dying, no way of saying goodbye that can ever make our hearts stop missing them.

Oh, Karla. This is so touching. A far better tribute because you do not try to hide how devastated you were. Are, I should say. Sure, you adjust. Sure, you have wonderful memories. You do your best
to concentrate on them. But anniveraries. . .bless your warm and loving heart, is all I can say. I feel for you! Your mother was, and is, extremely proud of you. Isn't a doubt in my mind.
Aside from other considertions, this is very fine work, my friend.
So glad I was finally able to get back to your den.

Oh, Karla, I know your pain. It's only been 7 months for me. Everyone keeps telling me it gets easier, but obviously it doesn't. Not really. Know that others feel your pain, and be gentle with yourself when grief comes calling. Rebecca

Heartbreaking write, Karla, powerfully and painfully expressed grief as we remember once again her passing. It's been 18 years now; the pain doesn't get any easier. I miss Mom, too! Very much!

You echo the cry of every grieving heart, "She's gone, she's gone"
It's the one thought that intrudes on every other at the time of parting. You convey very well the lost feeling that accompanies the death of a parent.
