I read this poem last week, but have been thinking and thinking on one phrase... your words "emptied promises"...
At first I thought maybe you had meant to say empty promises, and had just made a typo. But then...I considered the source...Karla, the person who always makes us view nature from different and unique views... And I realized, over the weekend, how ingenious that phrase really is! When someone says "empty promises" we take it to mean that their promises won't really happen... but emptied promises... to me, that means that those who give those promises already drained out any chance of them coming true--worse than empty words or promises...because in empty words and promises there is usually at least some belief that they can accomplish the things they are saying. Maybe that doesn't make much sense, but it gave me such a vivid picture of what you were trying to say.

Such truth in so few lines. Whatever happened to "By the people, for the people"? Seems like government has lost all grips on realitey when it comes to the needs of America and her people. Sad! God b help us all!
