i was at the food pantry the other
day and couldn't help but notice a
young man, one with old eyes. his
head was downcast in shame; you
could see he didn't want to ask for
help: he should have been able to
provide for his family. ever since
he got back from iraq, he's looked
for work, but no one's hiring, not
with the economy the way it is.
the bills are past due; last week,
they got an eviction notice - and
there wasn't a damn thing i could
do but give him my shoulder to cry
on. we, who answered the call to
serve, who fought on foreign soil
or filled a need here at home should
not feel like strangers in a strange
land, wondering where our next meal
is coming from or where we'll sleep ...
a nation's rewards for a hero returned from defending his home land -- 148,000 H 1B visas (work visas) a month are issued to foreign workers by the United States president and Congress -- while Americans go without work -- 8 million illegal immigrants have full time jobs in America -- 47 million Americans are unemployed -- what is wrong with this picture my friends -- sorry for emoting, but the situation has me gravely concerned for our great nation -- peace and love my friend -- Jon Michael
Amazingly Powerful! Karla I adivice you to publish this poe in all US papers to wake up people in power and to lend a shoulder to millions around the nation who are in the same status with that man.

Karla, I feel so sad for those like yourself who have to go through this kind of treatment! It is unjust and a dark stain on our leaders
who know how to make promises to get elected, then forget them afterwards. No one ever seems to find answers to these proble,s. perhaps a revolution is the only way!
It's a disgusting shame our government can send billions to other countries but won't take care of our vets. Keep penning it Karla, it needs to be said and who better to say it than one who has lived it?
He sure shouldn't have to go through that after what he's been through... We need to help our Vets get replaced in civilian life. They should have first picks of jobs and services... You said it with touching emotion...

And it's happening to their families while the serviceman/woman is in Iraq and Afghanistan. A shame upon us...what was started 8 years ago is not easily overcome in six months...

Sad indeed ! And what is Obama doing about this mess? Absolutely nothing; except renting a $20,000,000 (million) estate on Martha's Vineyard for his summer vacation. He's no better than the CEOs who took million dollar bonuses from the government bailout.
Powerful write, Karla; this should not be!! All leaders are responsible for taking care of those whom they ask to serve or volunteer to serve. All of them are guilty of broken promises made. Such a shame! All of our veterans from all wars or conflicts should not lack for ANYTHING!!!!

Such a sad but true write my friend, it seems that things are getting harder and harder for everyone! I worry about my son and husband's jobs as they are both coal related. I know that there are consequences with coal, but in Kentucky if we didn't have coal especially in the southeastern part of the state...there wouldn't be much life. It's a scary time with the economy as it is. The future looks grim for many. I hate that our service men and women lay their life on the line and separate themselves from their family to help protect our soil and the lives of many....only to come home to situations like you've written about. It's a shame that there's not something in place for those whom have served. Too many in our area that haven't worked a day in their life, healthy, but sorry that draw money from the government...to me this is taking from those that really deserve it. Those with disabilities, the elderly, and those whom have served. Your writing always inspires me and gets me fired up. Write on dear friend, you've got a wonderful heart and compassion for others.

Well said Karla. If you would ever be brave enough to look into the eyes of Bush, you'd find a dead zone. Lives are nothing to him but objects to be used to make him and his cronies richer. How can mere objects be hungry or in need of housing? To the likes of him, you are old news and of no more use than to be lining bird cages.
