Two years ago today, my big, strong Daddy passed away.
... I need him now ... .

Feeling the loss especially
keen, a blade of sadness
sharp in my heart as it cuts
through, again, again.
Memories, like tissues, pile
at my feet as the tears flow.
My big, strong Daddy. Hero.
He served his country along
with his four brothers. They
all came home, lived their
lives, raised families. One
by one, they passed. Daddy
was the last to go.
It's as if he knew I needed
him. I need him now.
I need him now ...
His strength was felt in his
arms as he would embrace
me in a hug. I would rest
my head on his chest, listen
to his heart beat love.
His laughter ... he used to
tell the best stories. You
believed him because he
told you, 'There I was. ...'
I never saw Daddy cry except
once. That was when Mom
died. He didn't think anyone
knew, but I saw the tears of
loss on his face.
The same ones on mine
that fall in rememberance ...

My dad just went through heart surgery, and it's so hard to even think of ever losing him, let alone going through what you are in the poem. Hugs.

beautiful write, i find there are days when I really feel the presence of my father and days when I just plain miss him!

I'm speechless. This is so powerful and beautiful--straight from the heart. Let me assure you that you have tranlated your loss, pain and suffering into an asset, i.e. the ability to express emotional truth and connect with others. He would be proud of you.
Powerfully moving poetry, Karla, spoken as only a daughter of a wonderful man can. I miss him too and have tears running down my own face as I read this poem. Very well penned rememberance; I will never stop loving him, nor will I ever stop forgetting him or his brothers for the sacrifices they made for our country. God bless him and all who serve(d)! Look your eyes and talk to him, you will be amazed at what you will be seeing and the words in return...all comes down to faith, because he is there for his little girl. Always.
