Poem Artwork

I never got the chance to say
goodbye.  You didn't give me
a choice ----- dying was the
last thing we were thinking

about.  I thought you'd be
around forever -----

wasn't prepared for the call,
to hear my brother's words,
'He's gone.'  They say time
heals all wounds ----- not so.

The pain, a little duller now,
but still there,

throbbing just below the
surface, a heartbeat away
from leaking from my eyes
at a moment's notice.

I miss you more than ever.

Karla, your poem reeks with sorrow. But we all must pass. He was just further down the road than you. If you are a believer, you will see him again. If like me, you are not a believer, You will have the memory of him that no one, no one in this world, can take away from you. But he is within you; His thoughts, his life, and his words, will forever affect your personality and that, in itself, makes him and you, immortal

I know it still hurts, I can feel the honest pain in your poem. An honest write from the soul.

12/06/2007, it is now more than three years since mine departed Karla. You are right, the pain never leaves. I think of him often and would like to be able to tell him many things that were left unsaid. I bid you love and peace in this new year. Jon Michael

Oh Karla, you could easily be quoting my own thoughts about my mom. I miss her more at the holidays than at any other time. An excellent, beautifully expressed poem. Rebecca

It is harder for us because we weren't able to go to Daddy's funeral; we never got to say goodbye. There's a sense of something missing, and we won't rest until we are able to go back home to pay our respects to our father and say our final goodbye. Powerfully penned sadness; well done, Karla!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin, Karen Lynn. :( *Tears!*

Very moving piece, Karla. I especially was touched by the line

"a heartbeat away
from leaking from my eyes"

Absolutely beautiful manner in which to capture the sentiment.

Karla this is truly and wonderfully deep from your heart, though it be painful, a most very expressive poem,
remember no one ever leaves, but only from our eyes,Hugs!

Karla, I love the last stanza. This poem is what I love about poetry. The subject may be painful, but the words can be so beautiful and well placed that they help to alleviate the pain. Well done.
