I am one of THEM: a disabled Veteran.
But my injuries were not incurred on a
field of honor: they happened here,
stateside, on duty. Even though not
colored enough to warrant purple, the
pain does not go away. Results are
the same: loss of health. Loss of ...
dignity. Given the chance, I would do
it all over again: Freedom means that
much to me. My God. Flag. Country.
Family. Disabled? Yes. That's okay
--- I served. Proud to be a Veteran.
God bless you, Karen. I am so proud to know you through AD as the wonderful person and veteran that you are. May God bless you and keep you in His safe arms forever and help you at all times with your disability. I somehow know that you are proud to have served; without knowing you except through your writing, I know you are an honorable, God fearing woman. I salute you!
Though you and I have never seen each other in person, nor broken bread together, it is and has been an honor to know you in the way that, through AD, we know each other.

Karla, I think you speak for all veterans when you speak for yourself and I want you to know that your words do not fall on deaf or unappreicative ears. I cannot pretend to imagine your pain, or the phychological complexities of what you have been through. But I do know I admire your work, love you for your service and your honesty, that shines through in your work, and that I always find provacative and enjoyable. This piece included.
