He always called me his kitten.
Well, really… maybe, I am.
I can purr softly and gently,
lifting my skirt’s outer hem.

Don’t think that I am ‘easy’,
(it’s not what it appears).
I simply try hard to please him,
to soothe his troubles and fears.

When we’d met he was sourly.
Bitter––under life’s heavy yoke.
Now he is almost jolly, in fact:
kinder, not easy to provoke.

When I purr––he jumps to attention,
Ready to grant me my wish:
No matter how hard he’s still working,
…he’s no longer a bitter, cold fish.

Now he’s quite a romantic,
Responding to my every purr.
Last night, (you’ll never guess why),
He gave me full-length, sable fur.

So, perhaps, I’m a kitten,
gorgeous to stroke, even touch.
And if you ever had one
You’d know I’m a wonderful catch.
