"Shadows Of My Mind"

In the Shadows of my mind,
I feel the clouded remains,
Of your existence.
You are not alive to me,
You are but a reminder of a
Love gone very wrong.
When I think of you,
I see your face shrouded with,
The veil of doubt that you have
Cast in my soul.
Each time I go into those shadows,
your existence becomes more and more
distant, like that of a stranger.
I can't keep reaching out in those shadows,
It would be like reaching out to you.
I don't want to go in to the shadows
Of my mind, but my longing to see you,
creates those moments of regression,
to that long lost love that I can no longer have.
I have taught myself to have
preservation from your existence in my mind.
I shall not allow myself,
Yet one more time, to go to those
Shadows of my mind................

Amber, the shadows of a love no longer there can hurt the soul and cause a person to continue to desire what we know is gone. As the shadows try to revive within the soul, allow a light to shine in to destroy the shadows and make them become memories no longer alive.

Sometimes the biggest fight we face is from within. Our struggles, especially with lost love, can sometimes cripple us. Everyone who reads this work will know from experience the words you have so well penned.

Very intriguing picture! You have painted a picture with your words of one soul being torn in two, slowly, very slowly mending to make yourself whole again....
Strength Amber...it's hard to muster in those times when we do our best to keep the past in the past. Sometimes there is just a compelling reason and regression gets the best of us. Those pesky shadows seem to hang on by a single thread.

Bittersweet. Self-preservation - absolutely necessary.
Such a wonderful poem for all of us who have had that love and it went way, leaving linguering moments of "I wish."
This one is powerfully penned; longing in every heartfelt word. Excellent, Amber: and the notes say so much ('sometimes we must preserve ourselves from ourselves'): we can be our own worst enemy. Don't I know.
