Based on the painting of the same name by Edward Coley Burne-Jones
Spread toes on
moss-covered stones
smiling welcome rains
silver slipping-
and soaked
and i dove,
because with you
diving is divine.
Breath, not to hold,
but to float-
smothered in you,
where heaven slept
i kissed your arm inside,
and pale-
and i swam with you
because you swim
the same lengths as me,
stroking.
Hair as shiny black eels,
too loose to strangle-
but yet,
in it up to the neck,
and then some-
and i go down with you
because with you is
peace and sin,
submission.

Beyond the excellence of the writing - and excellent it is - is the appreciation of the art that inspired your art. That you can garner so much emotion and expound so eloquently on a frozen moment held together by brushstrokes and pigments, breathing life into it beyond the capacity of the original work... that, young lady, is the stuff that dreams are made of :~) At least, mine are.
Truly you are inspired and we are blessed that you share this inspiration via your verses, Michelle. Thank you for this gift. Love and best wishes to you,
The depths of devotion and love is shining in this poem..I love the painting, but like Andy said, your poem is by far better!

An orignal, creative interpretation. However, the painting should be an interpretation of your poem. For I like far better, your write, than the oil. Keep the good stuff coming our way. Thanks, Jon Michael Willey
Terrific idea, my only question is: wouldn't it be better in all present tense? (not a big deal though) I like the whole idea: "... diving is divine..." Most unusual love poetry I've read in awhile. AND you'd like my jazz song off my new CD being released this week (CreateSpace.com) "The DeepAbyss" ("I too shall swim")
Nice to know of you...michael guy

Never thought of dove as in diving.
The poem is better than the painting, yet i can nee explain as to why...
The ancient kings of Whitehawk were all too aware of the temptation of magic. They could feel its threat, a presence in their courts, a serpent slithering at their feet, even entering into their beds.

Born of their seeds, kingdom will rise against kingdom, one will hold great mysteries, one will turn the tide and one will not be bound. War is fought, not only on the field but also within the mind. Nothing is what it seems take nothing for granted.
