At the cross, I
saw first light, surrendered self
to God. Willingly,
with sacred trust
I join my heart to caring
faith community.

Just as I am
without pretense I come now
to altar to pray.
The people point
with mockery, spread lies, tell
me to go away.

Amazing grace
that sweet, sweet sound can’t be heard
above the clamor,
stampede of feet.
“Sinner. Sinner,” they scream, grab
some nails and hammer.

The Church’s one
foundation is Jesus Christ
her Lord who forgives
sinner, forgets
the sin. So when we forgive,
love grows full, hope lives.

Oh, the deep, deep
love of Jesus holds me through
the terrible pain.
These cuts will heal,
but even still I mourn trust
met with cool disdain.

It is well with
my soul which sings in soft,
hushed tones all alone.
Among ruins of
confidence shattered by those
who cast the first stone.
