Queen of Kong

O’ wretched beast am I to stare at you

Through depths of endless jungle

For what beast are you?

With hair as lush as running vines,

Lips ripe as papaya, mango, red melon

Embedded eyes like lagoon teeming deep with vibrant blue

Must I come nearer?

Closer to you because you fill every diameter of my giant eyes,

Strike my curiosity with the force of the native’s spear.

Fascinated am I,

For I’ve never seen the likes of such beauty in the jungle so wild

Except in the form of a small rose.

Need I run my finger through your hair just to know you’re not a dream.

Please be not afraid if I grasp you with my rugged hands

For my only intent is to protect this rare rose before me

Whom greedy men would take away and

Should they try to steal you away,

Spoil your beautiful face,

Then I will rush you to the tops of the world

Place you atop the empire-state building on a new throne

Where no man can touch you.

There, I will protect you from all harm

Forge out my heart’s last unbearable beat for you

Upon my chest with the ragging rhythm of a conga drum.

So this whole world will know the sound of my great love.

Should their planes finally riddle my flesh with bullets and I fall from you.

Smile for me little one.

For I am not falling to my death, but

I’m falling in love with you.

Sunshine Rains On Lovers Blue

Many times had I told her to leave
To come and go with me
Many times did I lead her to the water
Yet she refused to drink my thoughts.
Though maybe it just a glint of hope while she was being held in the capturer’s claw
All I will ever know and remember is she stayed and
he waited in the driveway
Shot her in the back of the head as she ran the car into the woods for help
Shooting her four more times at the clearing just to see if she was dead.
At work I felt sick
The moment she was dying.
Our bond just that deep.
A relationship like the very sun and moon.
Because when her sunset my moon dripped away in blood
Refusing to shine
Then came the call and I rushed to the daycare where the bastard left our son
The same blood that birthed him now covered his face.
I slowly cleaned the last of her life off of him
Placing the red towel in my pocket.
Then carried him to my mother’s house and returned home.
Grabbing my pistol
Reason quickly left with pain
All that was left was the final act of a brave heart.
To inflict the same wounds that he’d set on her.
To reap back what was sewn.
Let the gun ring five more times for my love.
And stand over him and ask the same
Are you dead yet?
The consequences life in prison or worse
Didn’t matter now.
I was already in solitary without her
But this sweet voice said, “Put it down!”
And so I laid it back in the drawer and walked in the rain to see her just one last time.
She was in the pink coffin
And still as beautiful as a Chocolate Valentine
I’d touch her hands so badly wanting to pick her up and throw her on top of the coffin and kiss her like our first time on the hood of the car, but she couldn’t move now.
So I leaned to her and kissed her lips
Trying to give her some of my breaths of life, but it was useless.
Too little to very late.
The warmth was gone away so gently put her hands back in place
Walked out leaving her behind.
The rain pouring as I began to walk home
I’d add to the downpour
Let myself cry
Close my eyes and let it rain ten inches
But then I felt it with my eyes closed
Behind the darkest cloud in the east I could feel the glare of the sun rising on my face
Then it struck me.
It was her.
This was where my beloved warmth had gone
Her wet kiss was now the very rain that struck my lips
And at this very moment these were her last words
Her simply telling me, "Sunshine Rains On Lovers Blue.”

Wow...I find no words in response to your words...I was so excited with Queen of Kong and desolated with Sunshine Rains on Lovers Blue... and then your ending brought the sunshine back a little... This is so beautifully done...thank you for sharing these!

Wow! Two very heart moving, and intense pieces of love. A+ Beautiful writing, awesome use of imagery. The titles are perfect for the piece, sometimes I find that difficult. Thank you for sharing .

Chris,
Both of these are beautiful poems! I love how you tell stories in each one, and they are so vivid. The thing I love most is how you express your feelings about love and relationships so richly without getting too intense or graphic in the descriptions. Have you ever performed these live? That would be awesome! If a person closed his/her eyes while you were reading these, the imagery would take them there. God bless you.

The imagery that you use is amazing! The titles of your poems so perfectly capture the essence of your poems... I loved how you tied everything in to King Kong in the first poem. In the second poem, I almost didn't complete it because it was a little shocking. But... the ending...after he left the coffin. Oh...pure beauty! I loved the imagery of the sun and rain at the end.

Terrific writes!

Now, this is right in line within my neck of the woods! It's also why I play! :)
Your creativity and form, flow and presentation are such, that one might go APE over!
I Loved it!

Skillfully executed, Chris, and a most interesting subject as well. It is worthwhile to consider, in this context, that our simian cousins share approximately 99% of their DNA with us. We humans are a lot closer to Kong than we imagine, in our self-inflated role as the self-proclaimed 'highest evolved' sentient species. Excellent imagery, deft choice of both words and similies in 'Queen of Kong'. Thoroughly enjoyable, as much because it is well crafted. Mahalo for this one! Kalikiano

I "hitch-hiked" over here from Axilea's. (Thanks for the lift) I immersed myself in this one--you've captured the air of a giant, clumsy love. The monolog is perfect--exactly suitable for the subject. I find myself scrolling up and down to see the picture and read another line--too perfect. This poem should be a permanent part of the picture. --Charlie

We are children of the television, movies deeply anchored in our minds. We have forgotten all that was trivial and found poetry instead.

Lovely inspiration and a sweet sense of humor.

the question of why one is attracted to another rises so often and in this eloquent piece you provide a poetic declaration that any heart could recite... to fall into another soul, to see what no common person can see, to allow one's self to feel what is deep and devoted love, a love that transcends the eyes and is absolute adoration... you've captured it all my friend.
