This evening I lost my best friend. May he rest in peace.

Poem Artwork

I looked at the ceiling, tears run down my face,
a pet that I loved had been taken from me.  Though
I don’t understand, they say he is no more pain.

He was the light of my life, someone who never judged;
 just listened and gave me love.   Before I went to bed, at night,
 with a little meow said, “Please scratch my head.”
And in the morning, he’d meow again; time to get out of bed!

Who am I going to pet at night? Who will wake me up?
Nothing will ever fill the hole in my heart, the
one my Jack cat left.
The love he gave was the unconditional kind;
the one only animals know how to give. I will
not dwell on my Jack’s death, but remember the way
he lived.
My Jack cat has gone to St. Francis, who will take him to
the Lord.   At least I know while he’s in heaven, he’ll
feel pain no more.
In memory of my beloved Jack 1994 -2009

I could feel this one, Mary. I'm reminded of an aging preacher who visited me a few years back. His Service dog had died, and he told me he wasn't going o get another. He'd had four others, and he said that the pain was too great when he lost them. He relied on his wife to get around. Having had many pets, I could identify with him ... and you. Well done!

So sorry to hear about your loved pet, Jack. Pet's do have a special place in our life --- we usually forget that someday we will have them no more. An interesting thought you have -- going to St. Francis who is known for his love of animals. Beautiful thought! Susan

I am so sorry for your loss, Mary; it's always sad when we lose our furry friends! They may be a "dumb animal" to some people who don't understand, but to us who have had pets, they were more than an animal: they were valued family members who brought us much in the way of joy! Know you are in my prayers; I know the pain of losing a furry friend! It's horrible! Well penned tribute to your furry buddy!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :( >tears! <

I still miss my furry babies: "Friday". "Ouizer". "Cajun". (all cats.)

I am so sorry for your loss Mary but I hope you don't waste all that love you have...one of so many cats and other animals in the shelters on their death row would so benefit by all the love you have to offer. I know they cannot replace but they may become a new friend and a great comfort in your pain.

Hard to explain to someone who is not an animal lover the depth of pain when losing a pet. I swear that cats are psychically attuned to their "owners". They know when you are sad and seek to comfort you. Yes, they love unconditionally and are more loyal than any human I've ever known. There is no consoling, but I'm so sorry you lost your beloved pet, Mary...Hugs, Lin
