Pumpkins round and firm
scattered in fields have ripened
Often free to those
for their efforts of picking
Wondrous sight to see:
bold orange covers the soil.
Crispness in the air
gives tingling effect to souls
searching for the prime pumpkin.
A “thwat” here and there,
you know you’ve found the right one.
Oh, Pumpkin Spirit
do not belie your firmness.
Your throne awaits you
on tables around the world.
A Thanksgiving treat,
and I will proudly serve you
as pies or breads delicious.
*Naga Uta originates from Japan, and tho originally created as dance music, it now creates a story. It can be written as long as you like (number of lines). It is a syllabic poem; there is no rhyme required; the lines vary in this order...5-7-5-7-5-7 etc., and always ends with ...5-7-7
