These lyrics were written for all my children, however it reflects the pain of saying goodbye to my youngest as he left for the US Army only months before his oldest sister moved to Boston and his other sister moved in with her in-laws, and only weeks before his 18th birthday. Too many goodbyes.

I burst with pride at seeing you go
but I hide from you my loneliness and secretly scream 'please don't go

One little word has caused me so much pain
I watched with silent cries as you walked away from our goodbyes.

Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, God I hate that word.

I try to be strong for you, so you wont change your mind about doing what you have to do
but it hurts so bad without you and I just want you to come back home.

                          (Chorus)
My heart is breaking and I cant stop weeping
I lay awake when I should be sleeping
Too many goodbyes for me to swallow
Letting go of so much fills me with such grief and sorrow

I took our time together for granted.  I guess I thought goodbye would never come,
or maybe I just couldn't face that fear.

My heart has been broken a million times before but I never thought it would be broken by you.
I knew I had to let go so you could grow into a more beautiful you.

But I had no idea how bad it would hurt to see you stretch your wings and fly away.
I feel so empty and lonely inside, yet Im filled to the brim with pride.

Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, God I hate that word.

(Repeat Chorus)

Fly on my sweet, fly on.  I will be here when you come home.  I will hide my pain just for you, for you to make it through what you have to do.

Fly on my sweet, fly on and know that I love you.

This is a very sad and emotional write.
I'm sure it was very painful to put those feelings into words.
