I must trust you very much to write this poem and share it with you. This subject was for me a torment from childhood right through to adulthood. And a painful subject which I didn't think I'd ever over-come.
Apparently, I have for now I finally can see a funny side.
Never Stops Growing!
I was always awfully self-conscious of my nose, a very tender topic indeed.
Of course it didn’t help with my brother’s remarks or how he tormented me.
He’d call me big nose every time he wanted to hit a nerve or make a point.
I never thought of it then but he had the same nose, from the tip to the joint.
All I knew was I was so self-conscious and always hid it with my hand.
Thinking everyone was looking at it, like it was my own personal brand.
They didn’t have plastic surgeries back then, so that was never an option.
I would somehow have to learn to live with it, like some do with adoption.
So here I was with a nose I hated and very prickly when the subject came up.
I’d quickly get a drink of water or soda and hide my big nose in the cup.
Will I ever grow out of this obsession, was a question I’d ask many times?
I always acted so guilty all the time, like I committed some terrible crime.
As I grew older I thought I'd over came this awfully self-debilitating faze.
Until I heard on the TV that our noses keep growing until we are in our graves.
Now I’m back with another question, how long will this nose grow to be?
HOLY COW, maybe I should stop right here, while I’m at sixty-three.
‘Cause if I live to be one hundred, it will have grown way past my knees.
Can you imagine the situations & problems I’ll have, every time I sneeze?
you've described your little phobia remarkably well Bonnie -- it just goes to prove that perception and truth are often diametrically opposed -- a big nose is Dumbo the elephant, or Jimmie Durante, but definitely not, Bonnie's nose -- peace and love to you -- JMW
I love this story.... it is a story.... and you are so lovely that who even notices something like a nose? We all have something about ourselves that we don't like...but...others don't notice... This was revealing however...and... I think you have overcome this with humor and grace... :-)) lindalaw
It is sad that kids and adults can pick on someone about their little differences, I am glad you have the ability to look back and laugh and keep on laughing for it means you are the better person.

I'd always hated my pert, little ski jump nose. I also hated my lips, my smile, my too-little eyes. Yet that's how God made me, so I have to learn to love myself, warts and all (and I don't have ANY of those! LOL)! Cute write, Bonnie; you always make me laugh! Keep it up!

I'm glad you saw the humor in your plight. Written very humorous and funny, Sorry, I couldn't help but laugh. I've heard your nose and ears never stop growing. You should have seen my grandfather, he lived to 104 years!

...great write Bonnie...the nose always growing...right or left...which funny side do you see...and all the stories life has given you to tell...in your fine humorous words here.

Awww that's okay! I used to wear hats to bed at night because I did not want my ears to grow and a scarf across my eyes because everyone used to tease and call me four eyes because of my coke bottle glasses. What did I know, I was just a kid. Great write Bonnie. Of course I always left my window open just a teeny tiny crack to make sure Tinker Bell could get in if Peter should send her. Yes, even the deep freeze of winter.
Brothers and sisters can be so mean, and so can fellow schoolmates. :( I know ... still live with the repercussions of what I heard, growing up. Be proud of whom you are, and what you have! An excellent, poignant write filled with gentle self depreciation and humor - trying to laugh despite the tears you've cried. That, my friend, takes courage. And you are it. :D
