Bonded in Battle (Picture challenge)

We knew that one-day
he would seek to find
the child of the “sacred heart”
who would save all those left behind.

We were known as the “keepers”,
sanction by the sword of truth,
as knights of a damned world
to protect the child in her youth.

Steadfast and prepaid to fight
we waited as day turned into night.
We stood waiting for days upon days
holding our ground ready to slay.

His presence filtered, penetrating
the air with stench of evil’s ail.
We bear our swords prepaid
to fight to the death, to prevail.

But our senses betrayed us
of his unforeseen attack,
he took us off guard
when he attacked our backs.

We stumble and fell to the
the stones of doom,
we felt defeated
our souls filled with gloom.

The child we protected
walked into our path,
the holy war had begun
with God’s wrath.

Evil slithered and filtered
to the depth of its shell,
returning to the pits
of its everlasting flaming hell.

The child was no more,
she became the Goddess of the holy storm,
to flood the earth of its false pretence,
to remold it into heavens dorm.
