Coffeehouse Burnout

Poem Artwork

Stumbling around in the night, forever

Trying to find some illumination

In this murky world of good intents

But questionable actions, dark deeds

Eyes opened wide, arms reach tentatively

To find only more emptiness…stretching

As far as these blind eyes fail to see

Groping with hands that end in despair

Seeking intellectual intercourse but finding

Only more f***ing talk…about nothing

Resolving nothing, accomplishing nothing

Time filled to the overflowing with words

Smoldering butts scorching the imagination

With embers that never quite burn

But never burn out, singeing the tongue

While leaving the soul out in the cold

Quivering heart not beating,

Gaping mouth open, gasping for life

For companionship amid the smothering throng

Of bodies that surround us…we struggle

With ourselves and our dreams

Amid coffee shop geniuses and fools

In cap and gown, extolling

The virtues of freedom while applying

The scourge of the few to the backs of the masses

Fumbling, reaching, groping, forever empty

Nighttime zombies in a daytime existence

Still on we stumble…forever hoping

Man, this spoke my words. I made up a poem a long time ago, purposely using the largest, slowest words in order to make fun of those pretentious coffeehouse people. Your poem was much better :)

In our existence there are few gems in our lives hidden among the stones of stupidity and hate and boredom and sorrow. But it takes much effort to find the gems to light up our world and illuminate our minds.
But once in a while there is a gem from an unlikely source; who doesn't even realize they are carrying around a precious stone in their hearts. And may indeed seem one of the mindless masses. These I see once in a while and this sustains me to walk along the path of shattered glass barefooted, taking all the cuts to my feet and my heart and my soul for just a little sustenance of one clever word or bright idea. You are a candle Sue. Never doubt your flame burns brightly here at AD. Others don't. (((Hugs))) Bill

Ever tried alcohol? At least you can sleep through the worst parts instead of having your eyes wired open.
