Poem Artwork

So tired from work, I open the door
Just like a million times before
All I want is to rest and sit down
But she starts in with another round
No hug , no kiss, no welcome mat
Fussing and fighting is where it's at.

I've given her all my love and care
When she needed me I was there
When did she turn so cold and mean
The likes of her I have never seen
She has hit me time and again
I try to keep my anger held in

I have told no one, who would understand
I'm supposed to be strong, I'm a man
The pain is raw inside of me
There's scars on my heart no one can see
Do I leave her ,  just walk away
Or hope things will get better someday
I am so tired,  wish she'd leave me alone
Can't fight anymore,  my strength is gone
It drains the life right out of me
I have no courage to set myself free
To be beaten down every day
It takes part of your soul away

I try to relax, but the screaming goes on
If only I just hadn't come home
The verbal abuse, Oh it hurts me so much
What I would give for one loving touch.
All I get is the back of her hand
God, I feel like half a man
I don't know how long I can go on
Holding to a love I know is gone
I just know I can't take this anymore
Her yelling echos as I walk out the door

To be beaten down every day----
It takes part of your soul away.......

Authors Note: We hear so much on spousal
abuse ..the man being the abuser. Here is a
different light on things. This does go on in
our society!

Thank you Linda. I also have knowledge of this. It is tragic.

Ive counselled this, Linda. It's much, much more common than people think, or than men ever let on. A difficult subject tackled well.

Very good write Linda, yes men suffer the abuse as women, physical and mental. Keep up the good work.

Very Powerful write Poet!!! Any form of spousal abuse is wrong. It is such a shame that as an educated Nation and people we still have this happening. More often than not, yes you are right, it goes without being reported for many different reasons. Thank you for posting this absolutely incredible write, Poet!!!

Yes, it does happen. And it's much more difficult for men to speak up/out against the abuse. They're supposed to be strong/tough, right? What a shame we bow to societal conditioning... Excellent write, Linda. Thanks for speaking up for the men.

Hugs,
Tami

My X-wife had a bad habit of throwing hard objects towards my head, like glass ashtrays, coke bottles, etc. ashtray got me on the forehead one time. She always burnt the food, cussed, drink, you name it. I was good to her until she finally ran off and threw things at another husband. Best thing that ever happened for me, is when she left.
Sad this goes on for men & women both.
Great write Linda.....

So many put up with so much.
Life can be so sad.
It is such liberation when one finally leaves the abuse.
Thanks for sharing this.

There are many stories of women who do not report abuse from fear and embarrassment. One wonders how many men do not do so for the same reason.

This is true Linda, it does happen and nothing is ever really told from this point of view. You did an excellent job in showing the other side of the coin. I still believe though, there is no excuse for anyone to abuse anyone else, be it man, woman or child. Thanks for sharing this great write.
