Poem Artwork

Hair long and golden
Eyes filled with tears
Heartaches and pain
Way beyond her years
Her Daddy left
When she was small
Between work and raising her
I can't do it all

I feel the pressures
Hanging over me
I take them out on her
Hoping no one sees
She kneels in the corner
Tears in her eye
While I hit and hit her
Wishing I could die

Welts on her arms
Bruises on her back
As I slowly put her clothes
In a paper sack
I can't put her thru this
I have to set her free
I want her protected
From the likes of me

She never had a childhood
Like other girls and boys
Never had a Christmas tree
With candy cane's or toys
She's lived her life in fear
No real chance to live
Love and hugs and kisses
Were more than I could give

The social worker comes
And carries her away
Her sad face will haunt me
Until my dying day
A dirty dress strawn on a chair
Shoes lying on the floor
Tears flowing down my face
I can't hit her anymore

So sad, how could anyone not be moved by such a vivid and heartrending poem. It makes the reader want to take the little girl and hold her in their arms to succor and defend her.
Beautiful Linda, beautiful.
