This is a repost, but it's one of my favorites. I am reposting it hoping that someone out there will read this and get the help they need. I cannot shout it loud enough or often enough ...Tell Someone NOW
I cry for the little girl
Bruised and alone
Her mama hits her every day
And her Daddy's gone
Look at my grave
My soul screams from within
Tell someone NOW
Don't pay for their sin
I cry for the little boy
Who's hungry and cold
No blanket on his bed
Just a teddy bear to hold
Look at my grave
I was just like you
Tell someone NOW
You know what to do
I cry for the children
Beaten and abused
Haven't you had enough
Of being hit and used
Look at my grave
See my tortured face
Tell someone NOW
You could be in my place
Talk to a teacher
Or to a trusted friend
Stop the abuse right now
Let the hurting end
Look at my grave
I hid my bruises well
I promised in my heart
I would never tell
I hid in the darkness
Afraid of the light
Don't be like me
Stand up and fight
Tell someone NOW
You have a life to give
It's too late for me
But I want you to live
This is heartwrenching for me to read because I know the reality of the horrors that have been and continue to be perpetrated on helpless children. This is a message that must get out to everyone, as the title says, "NOW!" When I look at my little boy, who will be one year old tomorrow, and contemplate all the suffering that little children like him have to suffer at the hands of monsters, it tears at my heart. Thank you so much for saying what needs to be said! This is truly a powerful write!

This is a very poignant and compelling piece.
The subject matter resonated with my childhood experience at the hands of a cerebrally troubled autocratic father, and a cold indifferent, emotionally distant mother (It has been suggested by a good friend that I subconsciously transfer her coldness into certain female based poems eg Muddied Ice). I eventually escaped home but it took much longer to give the psychological effects the slip. I ended up working with guys harbouring social and behavioural problems, some of which echoed the abused lives referred to in your poem. Some of these adults never made it into middle age; their pain was so bad. It was an emotionally charged area of work that revived memories of my past but for strong empathic purposes.

Wow, if only! Too many children beign killed, beaten, raped, kidnapped. What is going on in what we call "civilization". Wish I could help all, but that is not reality. Pray.
Be safe,
Karen
The author's sad appealling tone to others in this poem is wonderfully written. It rather reminds me that we should all be our brother's keeper, and if one single child is spared by the quick actions of someone, then "Tell Someone NOW" is certainly a message we all should adhere to.
A heart wrenching write my friend...had a little girl last school year who came to me to talk about her abuse...finally after much pleading with her to talk to me, when she opened up I discovered that she was even sleeping in a building behind the house, not even in the house...it only took two days for the child to be removed, she is safe with her grandmother and doing very well...excellent write my friend, a subject that many do not wish to hear or talk about, but nevertheless a topic of reality!
Blessings,

Excellent Linda! The world is filled with dysfunction and darkness, and much too often it is levied against our children. You, and Trask, fly prominent banners in this world for the children. An honorable calling! Bless you for writing this!
Strong and passionate words we all need to pay attention to not just our children but all children,Maybe we can save a life one day...
Thanks for sharing,
Michael
