Mommy, Can I Talk To You?

Mommy, can I talk to you - I
have some things to say-
At school I met this little girl-
I made a friend today.
I like her Mommy, she is nice-
but I don't understand-
The other kids don't like her- They
snicker when I hold her hand.
Why do the kids judge her by
the color of her skin -
Why can't they stop and see her
beauty within?

She don't have alot, Mommy, her
family is poor -
She told me that her Daddy drinked-
he dont hug her no more.
Her Mommy's at work after school,
so she's left there alone-
Mommy, can we invite her here,
she can live in our home!
She's really good and I know she
won't need alot-
Just put her in my room , Mommy,
sit up the old cot.

She don't always have enough to
eat, her home is always cold-
Can I give her my teddy bear -
she'll have someone to hold.
Can we do something Mommy,
she's a friend to me-
We can't let her live like this -
she's in misery.
I told her I would ask you Mommy,
Please let her stay here-
I don't want to see her cry , Mommy,
today I saw a tear.

She don't have alot , Mommy, her
family is poor-
She told me that her daddy drinked -
he don't hug her no more...........

What a sad tale that is all too true. What is even sadder is that children seem to have the ability to see what we as adults either can't or more likely don't want to see. Great write on a very touching subject.

A 10 is not near high enough a score. This work is so heartfelt, compassionate, honest, and so very very sad! I would never be able to understand anyone not being touched. I am still in tears!
Full of TRUTH!!
Children, see pure with there hearts.
Until they are taught..And even then, "sometimes" they fight those teachings, and keep the love they were born with!
This is a subject so close to my heart, and captured so well by your angelic heart and pen.
More than OUTSTANDING!!
*hugs*

Your element of style is very profound, you grasp the concept of what it is all about, because it sounded just like a little girl, exactly perfect.

Very powerful write. I think the perspective in this is also unique. The way you use the dialect is very child like so you didn't miss your mark there. Bravo.

Linda, pack your bags and get ready to move.
Very soon you will be free from all the fetters that bind and absorb you to write as a free soul the way you choose. Thank your friend for your new site. You are free to set your own direction for your poetry. This is great!!!!!!!!!! It really is!!!!

Wow .. wondrful feeling of the lovely KID ... This shows what a child is ... how childrens are and there heart is ...

The heart of a child is really so pure ... u picturised that so beautifully.. Keep it up ..

Each individual in this world has different story to tell ...There will be thousands of stories .. if we think off .. I feel u have pricturised ur feeling about the childrens so beautifully ..

How can a poet put all the thousand feeling in a single poem .. tooo tough tooo tough ... There are families where Mommy Drink and Father is so goood .. and their are familes as u expresed .. But i believe u did this work very beautifully concentrating at the feeling of the CHILD .. and the heart the child holds ... doesnt matter who drinks MOMMY or Father ...

Good work LINDA .. keep it up ....

Keep smiling and take care ..

Linda, the parents are everything to the child. When dad drinks and ignores them, he is robbing them of their future. How I personally know this story as a child, but it was Mommy who drink. No one can understand these experiences until they have gone through them. I switched around so much that I could never make up my mind. This poem has so much truth in it that I could talk on this subject for hours. But others deserve a chance to comment. I know they have interesting, pertinent things to add. Bill Huggggs P.S.
