This is fiction for me...I just put myself in anothers shoes for awhile..felt what they must have felt for somewhere..this has happened to someone...
Silent tears fall
On a white sterile gown
Shadows lurking
They don’t make a sound
Mothers passing
Laughing in the hall
Beaming Dad’s
Standing proud and tall
No one notices my
Dark, lonely room
The shades pulled down
Trying to hide the gloom
Empty arms aching
I will never be the same
On this cold day in hell
When the doctors came
Such grief on their faces
I knew my baby had died
My heart shattered
As I broke down and cried
A baby boy I heard
One of the doctors say
My heart grew numb
As they turned away
Everyone is hurrying
How can this be
When this pain is
So deep inside of me
How can everything go
On just like before
When I can’t hold my baby
Or feel anymore
In anquish I scream
In despair I cry
How can life be so cruel
To let my baby die
Leaving the hospital
In a worn old wheelchair
I hang my head
As the mother’s stare
The hardest thing
That I’ve ever done
Is going out these doors
Without my son
Painful to read for me... it is tragic, yes, but somehow sacred too. '
I remember asking for a nurse to come down and teach me bind my breasts so I wouldn't have to deal with that along with everything else. An angry nurse came, grumbling under her breath about "these mothers these days!" She looked at me, accusatory, and said I should be breast-feeding my baby--that that was what was best for him.
I just stood there, somehow feeling raped of dignity-- so much contention on such a day where I was yearning for simplicity and peace. My friend couldn't even get a word in edge-wise, such was the rant of this nurse. But when finally the break came, she managed to spill out, "Her baby's dead, okay?"
I imagine that nurse had a tremendous lot rushing into her head at that moment, because she put her hand to her mouth, finished tidying up the room, and left without another word.
Linda, you may not have experienced this, but I can rest arrure you that you convey the emotion of it all very well!

What a great storyteller you are, Linda! This is heartbreaking. It is often excruciating to walk in someone else's shoes, but until a person does, s-he is like a child still learning to walk. For a creative writer, there is no other path, is there? In a sense, we must become the person we are writing about. Slip in and out of hi-r
skin and feel the beat of hi-r heart and the callouses on hi-r hands
and feet. Hi-r triumphs and, as in this case, losses. Bless you for being so compassionate and thoughtful. T h a n k . y o u . for
honing your talent and other skills to the point where you are able to make us feel that we, too, are there. Painful? Yes. Worth it?

This one moves me. Though we see this kind of things happen everyday, but to read about it in the 1st person is the first time for me. A captivating write, Linda!!!
This is strong, one of my friends just lost their daughter, she was still born, I think you did well with describing the feelings.

To walk in others shoes...you did with this sorrowful write.
I guess many are happily celebrating birth and they do not realize the sadness near them at the time. I did work in the nurseries at the hospital, and your writing captured the realism of what I had seen for real.
This is sad and I think it captures well a mother's grief, it ironic you are posting this today for my sister in laws granddaughter is being admitted to day to have her child removed, God already claimed her so yes there are those who have felt this pain so deep.

Brilliant job, Linda!!! You make this so stark and wrenching and true. There is such a total bond between mother and fetus/baby that parting, one from the other, is unbearable. Well done :-)
My first wife died of drug abuse and she was pregnant and took the baby with her. Around 1975 and the baby was a boy had he lived he would have been drug dependent: so they left this world togehter. A very sad time in my life. I have lost a lot of love ones to drugs and I am a bitter enemy and advocate against them! There is no victory in the use of drugs, the only looser is the user! Peace!!!
Heartbreaking, absolutely gut wrenching! Very well written, Linda; a most powerful write! Sad when a baby dies; it's the worst possible thing that can happen to a parent!

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
