Poem Artwork

She sits in her rocking chair
A faint smile on her face
She's remembering another time
Another day,  another place
I can only see my mother
As she was when I was a girl
Now she's all wrapped up
In her own silent world.

I wonder if she thinks of me
In her own private way
Does she think of the happy times
It seems like yesterday
Now she is only a shell
Not the Mother I have known
All the hugs, all the talks
All the sharing , it is gone

The walls are so high
Separating her from me
I long to bring back
My Mother as she used to be
Is she as lonely inside
As she seems to appear
Do I see at times
The glimmer of a tear

Mother, Please come back
This plea comes from my heart
Break down the barrier
That keeps us apart
I miss the beautiful times we had
The memories that we shared
There were moments in my life
When you were the only one who cared

My childhood years, our happy times
Are locked somewhere in memory
And only YOU dear Mother
Unknowingly hold the key.
Where does it all go, Mother
All my childhood years
Is it lost in the shadows
Along with my tears

How can I lift the veil, Mother
How can I make you see
Is there anything I can say
To help you remember me
I can only see my mother
As she was when I was a girl
Now she's all wrapped up
In her own silent world.

Please pray for all the wonderful people that Alzheimers has robbed their mind of such precious memories.  It not only affects the women/men involved but their families, too.

Hello Linda, am so glad that you are still going to be around here posting those thought provoking poems. Silent World is one of my favorites. I went through 3 years with my Mom having Alzheimers. I am the oldest of 9 children, and during this period all of us bonded closer together than we had ever been. No one can really know what it is like to have a loved one, have Alzheimers, unless they have been there with that person at that time, just like you were for your Mom. Usually people do not want to go there, on this subject, but it is one that needs to be shared. Thank you for sharing, and I am so happy you are still here for good.Take care

Since I'm not as good with words as you are I have trouble telling you how good this is, keep writing Linda Mae.

As I read this, I realized how very lucky you are to have good memories of your mom, despite her Alzheimers now. I grew up in fear of my mother - wondering when the next punch or smack with the ruler would come. I have no happy memories of her. I still don't. I have scars, though - mental and physical. I bring this up because it always amazes me how mysteriously the Lord works. Thus far, my mother is having a happy retirement. Thank you for sharing this poem and these feelings. Love and Hugs,
Sheila

Hi Linda, I think your poem "Silent World" carries a lot of tender meaning. I have never had to face the heart break of a loved one with Alzheimers but it has to be one of the loneliest test a person has to face. God bless, Don

Linda,

Only those who've been there can truly understand the pain, the tears behind these lines - powerfully penned.

I'm sorry that you'll be leaving the Den - they have a sponsorship program now - why not request help? You are needed here, your words are needed here - the Den will be a much darker place without your ray of light. If I could, I'D sponsor you, that's how much I believe in you.

(((((HUGS))))) love and prayer, karla. :(

Bless you Linda for writing this and for living it. It sometimes seems that we lose them early and it's horrible, or we are blessed to have them for a long time, and it too can be horrible. Our thoughts are with you and your Mother.
If you're leaving us because of the expense, we have a thing going where we help each other by donating for others on AD. Please contact Georg Mateos if that is the case.
My best to you, *Glen*

Oh how I know the feeling, neither of my parents recognized me or my brother towards the end of their lives and at times it was difficult to accept...

This poem Linda makes me want to cry but my tears are tears of joy. Because who are mothers were that is who we are especially if we are woman. So look in the mirror and thank your mother for her rebirth in you and now love yourself even more. Thank you so much for this poem and my tears of joy! May Truth, Justice, Love, and Peace never cease from this earth!!!

You have perfectly described what so many families experience when someone they love have this dreadful disease. It is sad...so very sad. Wonderful heartfelt expression my friend.
