Freedom is to Sweetness-
Just as I always did, before I sat down,
I straightened out the wrinkles of your spread-
and just for that moment I felt your warmth,
the warmth on the pillow where you once laid your head
I took a deep breath, and let it out real slow,
as though I were inhaling your precious life-
On your wall right above the bed, was a photo-
in it, a pretty young thing, you said would be your wife
Through silence of the morning a song appears,
Tim McGraws’ “If your reading this, I’m already home,”
Tears fill my eyes, roll off my cheeks to the floor-
in a puddle at my feet, lay my heart forevermore
Oh my Dearest Son, I’ll remember you always,
not just one day of the year-
It’s not your death but your life I’ll celebrate,
by refusing to live in fear
Freedom is to sweetness; As the price is to bitterness,
we’ll drink heartily from each cup this day-
Remembering every drop of blood that’s been shed-
while holding the enemy at bay

It's been a while Lisa, I havent read your work, my fault entirely.
I well remember the sweet encouragement given me after a certain write which allowed me entrance to a mutual friends site. I am still more than grateful for this, T Bob is a good friend.
I hope you are well, hope to read you again soon,

what a heartwrenching piece. Each individual a different story - yet all the same. You'd hope remembrance might change actions.

POWERFUL rememberance: it should not be just for Memorial Day, but EVERY day. If we value our freedoms, we need to thank those who have served, who are serving, who will serve in the future: you honor them with excellent verse. As a Veteran, I salute and thank you.
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
Take care,
Sherry
