Happy 4th of July everyone!!
The American flag heralded the launch of Apollo 11, the first Lunar landing mission, on July 16, 1969. The massive Saturn V rocket lifted off from NASA's Kennedy Space Center with astronauts Neil A. Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin at 9:32 a.m. EDT. Four days later, on July 20, Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the Moon's surface while Collins orbited overhead in the Command Module. Armstrong and Aldrin gathered samples of lunar material and deployed scientific experiments that transmitted data about the lunar environment.

Independence Day

It’s a game of Baseball in the park

Under a scorching sun bright and stark

Dogs and children run and play

As we celebrate Independence Day

Grab a Hot Dog from the grill

Settle in to watch the explosive thrill

Sip lemonade fresh and tart

Get ready for the show to start

Old Glory waving, stripes unfurled

Let freedom reign e'er in our world

A Brass Band’s tune floats on the air

Marching songs the joyful fare

When fireworks explode up high

Like flowers blooming in the sky

Take a moment to reflect

And give our freedom due respect

Souls of our brave let’s please recall

As we party down and have a ball

For blood did spill so long ago

That a life of liberty we all would know

Take time to thank our Soldier-Sons

Who spend this day mid Enemy guns

That those oppressed in other lands

One day shall sleep in freedom's hands

As skies erupt in thundering light

That bright the indigo of night

Our nation prays for one and all

Who give their lives to freedom’s call

With all due respect Sherry, if by this you mean America's illegal occupatiion of Iraq and her imperial designs on the rest of the Middle East, I think you need to do some hard thinking about this situation...especially since your celebrating your own country,s libertion...
Happy Independence day to you and yours!

Powerfully and superbly said. May we never forget and always support the Teams of Veterans that have served are serving and will serve selflessly for our Freedom. And may we pledge to the Flag and be Proud and Thankful for everything we have and never be afraid or ashamed to shout and sing it the world every single day!!.

Excellent poem You truly have captured everything about this day of celebration. I love this Thanks Sherry!
I remember the landing on the moon and all that stuff. we had the tv out on the patio and my family w/ my Nana were on my Nana's back patio, waterfall going, having triple thick triple chocolate milkshakes from Snelgroves. I need to go home now and get me a milkshake. Gave myself cravings. They are the best shakes. Thanks for the memories and this wonderufl poem w/ the fantastic music! (c :)

Sherry,
So much to learn from and remember. No, Freedom is and was not 'ever' Free. Many lives were sacrificed on many battlefields for our way of life, and now we want to spread thick the b-b-q- sauce on top of it, so we don't have to face the truths of how we got to where we are today.
'Ol Glory waves yet, high above the trees,
for continued Freedom; for all to see-
Remember today, tomorrow and forever-
the sacrifices made, and Freedom isn't free!

Thank You Sherry! I was gone over the 4th..but I knew, I just knew you would remind everyone! And you did!

Yes, this truth does seem to get lost beneath barbeques and July 4th sales bonanzas doesn't it? Good 4th poem, Sherry. Hope your hand's doing better. Well, I guess it is unless you had someone else type up your poem. :-) ~~Nordette

Dittoes Eileen. This poem was so upbeat and positive that I almost feel ashamed that I put my pessimistic poem out there yesterday. Thank you for a good, old-fashioned Fourth of July poem!
