Broomsticks

She was a wicked witch
Upon her broom
As evil as evil can be
She sailed the skies
Each Halloween
Across deserts and restless sea

An old black Cauldron
She kept tucked safe
Behind her potting shed
Hidden ‘neath
Her magic herbs
Where the field mice made their bed

She’d make a fire
With old rosewood
From where flowers
Used to grow
Through swirling smoke
And licking flames, you could see the embers glow

 Her potion strong
She casts her spell
And calls the spirits in
Her final deed
To seal the feat
She adds a hair plucked from her chin

Once spirits flocked
And orders set
They head out for the fright
They’ll steal the souls
From little ones
On the streets this Hallows Night

Ghosts hide in shadows
And behind trees
Wolf howls stir up a fright
Mummies snatch kids
To take their treats
And make them zombies for the night

Halloween, O’ Halloween
It’s a night when
Fear takes charge
Ghouls steal your breath
The black cat wails
And evil reigns at large

Originally that is why people dressed up as witches or ghost, ghouls, werewolves, mummies and such, The real monsters wouldn't catch them. People centuries ago were very superstitious. You have written this one well sis, thank you for sharing.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love and who love you, and be with you always and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie

Totally love that picture's caption - a classic! Has a picture-book quality to it, Sherry, that, for me, takes the horror out of Halloween and replaces it with something altogether more palatable (in the blood, gore and terror stakes!) Reminds me to check my face in the mirror this evening...! :)) xx

A howling good write. Your picture reminds me of the scariest witches I ever saw–those in the Wizard of Oz. My brother's wife, is still a good looker at 70, dressed up for a witch picture with her granddaughter last week. Except for some green coloring for her skin, she doesn't need any makeup to look the part.
