Empty Boots
Some worn out boots are all that’s left
Of a man who met the call
To do his part for freedom’s reign
Knowing not, he’d give his all
With pride he donned his uniform
His boots were part of life
And as he marched and crawled and fought
These boots would show his strife
He oiled them and he polished them
And he wore them everyday
His boots tell stories of his life
And the price he had to pay
The mud and blood ingrained in them
Has remained for all of time
And the battles that he fought in them
Have taken ‘way their shine
Now dusty, these old boots do stand
Dyed by the stains of war
A symbol of this soldier, brave
Who was lost forever more
These empty boots shall ere remain
By the stone that bears his name
Reminding us the price that’s paid
That freedom shall ever reign
