'Then he appeared out of nowhere'

Poem Artwork

She sat all alone by the bedpost

Trying so hard to find a pleasant

thought - but all escaped as the

droplets tearing asunder carried

them to a watery grave.

In her hand she held his picture

Which now looked like a portrait

of Dorian Gray - somehow it was

trying to absorb her soul, so she

broke it into a million pieces.

All of her memories of him bore a

Striking resemblance to something

rather hideous - entertained the

the idea of putting a revolver to

her head and ending it.

But then the phone rang and the

Strange thing was, it wasn’t even

plugged in - was her ex-lover; “Why

did you break the picture of me?”

“You’d better run, I’m coming over!”

She quickly grabbed her car keys and

Got behind the wheel, but her auto

wouldn’t start - then it began to

rain which pelted the windshield like

the pain she felt inside.

Then he appeared out of nowhere and tried

To get in the car; it mysteriously started

and she ran over him - several times; was

acquitted just like Lizzie Borden; his folks

didn’t believe, gave her the willies.

She went to his funeral just to make sure he

Was dead; ashes to ashes, dust to dust; stood

over his grave - then up through the fresh

earth came his bloody hand and grabbed her

ankle; she dropped dead from fright.

He pulled her warm body six feet under; inside

His coffin he slipped a wedding ring on her

finger - now she’d be with him forever; but her

folks had the grave dug up; exhumed her body; she

was once again free, as she came back to life!

That is some tale, Robert. I like to think that "good" prevailed in the end as it surely must. Love and peace to you,
