'Someone or something was out there . . . '

Poem Artwork

The young couple were on a camping trip

Had been married a short time – not quite

long enough for the rings to have left any

indentations on their fingers . . .

A fall chill cascaded over the area where

They were hiking – decided to bed down

for the night; the usual sounds filled the

air, except for one . . .

Someone or something was out there; it

Passed right by their tent – he went out

to investigate; came back to her; said all

seemed to be okay . . .

The next morning they found footprints

Made of clay – seemed somewhat strange

to them; but they quickly forgot about it

as-they hiked on . . .

Started to rain – they pulled out their parkas

As he turned to his wife to help her, a clay

figure of huge stature knocked him out; when

he awoke, she was gone . . .

He picked-up the trail simply by following

Its’ footprints; what concerned him though

there were no screams coming from his wife

Was she still alive . . . ?

Following them, he came to the side of a

Muddy hill  – there she was, covered

in mud from head to toe, barely breathing

And there it was . . .

Standing at the top; began to stomp its’

clay feet – then  all of a sudden, the whole

side of the muddy hill came sliding down

They could not escape . . .

The couple were quickly buried up to their

Necks - It slid down to investigate; after

close examination, it touched them both

filling up all holes . . .

Their noses, their ears, and their mouths

Filled with clay – sealed their fate; their

mummified bodies weren’t discovered to

a much later date . . .

*Editor’s note – I guess you could say they

were just a couple of ‘clay’ pigeons . . .

I've seen and heard many a strange thing while camping, but never a Clay Monster. But now, I'll have to be on the lookout for him, too.
