'Sorry, no refunds . . . '

Poem Artwork

Was built over an ancient burial ground

Beknownst – the spirits from below

took over all the amusement park rides

They would move you like never before.

And once you got on, you never got off

Except afterwards when you were d-e-a-d

Sorry, no refunds – won’t even pay for the

funeral expenses, nor headstone with R.I.P.

Ghostly figures riding atop a carriage with

glass panels etched with the words ‘Funeral

Hearse’, drawn by four black horses; worked

‘round the clock – threw bodies in the swamp.

Graven images with mournful images floated

near the surface – their hands reaching out

looking for someone to come and save them

Could hear their moaning for miles around.

As the unfortunates hit the pavement from

a bird-eye’s view, you’d witness their souls

being pulled down below – to the Indian’s

sacred ground; there you remained imprisoned.

You could only be released if the U. S. Gov’t.

gave back a part of the Native American’s land

that was taken – one where an ancestor was

buried and which was desecrated knowingly.

Screams went on well into the night, and

would continue – until such time as the

owners who were Custer’s descendants, pad-

locked the place and closed it down forever.

This would make a great movie, my friend - and you've reminded me of one of the Poltergeist movies, where they built yet another modern day subdivision over a sacred burial ground.

Lance,
Freaky, scary and visually very strong, the images leap up at the reader from the page, and with more than a surface meaning there's depth and wisdom here, as well.

Leaning towards the macabre, yet a materpiece in its own right. My hat off to you for this informative wonder. Could it be the "Palisade's"?

Sounds like The Amusement Park from Hell. (Can we say "Abusement Park"?!? LOL) I like rides, but if ...

"... They would move you like never before
And once you got on, you never got off
Except afterwards when you were d-e-a-d ..." YIPE.

Think I'll keep my feet on the ground, where they belong!!! My new favorite of yours, Lance, well done! CHILLINGLY effective!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
