The one you love is suffering terribly, write a poem helping them to see light at the end of the tunnel, how can you convince them there is hope and love in the world still?
(for my sister who suffers terrible pain...)
Living with Pain
The way is dark before you,
And you cannot see the light,
Pain and suffering is so much
A part of your life,
I do not know what to say,
Or how to make you stay,
But I love you,
I can’t imagine you gone from my life,
We shared everything,
Sorrow and pain,
Joy and laughter,
We did it all together,
Side by side,
How can you think,
To leave me behind?
I wish I could take away your pain!
It’s not fair for you to suffer so!
I wish I could make you young and strong,
That we could laugh and run,
As we did when we were children…
But if not,
Then let us surround ourselves,
With the good memories we had,
And laugh together again!
Remember lying in bed,
Telling stories that scared us silly?
Hearing them yelling at us to shut up,
Or they would come in there and make us?
Remember putting clothes on the cat,
And scaring Bud to death?
The fool thought it was a little man,
Coming to get him…
I still smile and giggle when I think of that-
Let’s read each other stories and poetry again,
Play cards and take your mind from the pain,
I will do what I can to ease you dear,
To help you remember a better time,
We can be here for each other,
Help ourselves find a reason to stay,
Take your mind from your pain sis,
Don’t you see how much you will be missed?

i live with pain, 24/7, it's a part of my life. hate it. there are times i want to die...but i go on, knowing i have no choice. i will learn to live with pain rather than be lived BY pain...ya know what i'm trying to say?

Retta, this is exquisite. It reminded me of a wonderful lady named Shelia whom I worked with in the nursing home for so many years. We were best friends and she developed cancer. How hard it was to see her suffer so. God be with you and your sister, Retta. May he hold you in His loving care.

This was so excellent one and so beautiful. I can feel, see and understand the pain in this write. One more thing i see in this poem buddy. The care you showed and the affection you had in your heart. Everything was so delightful .. thanks for everything and thanks a lot for the care in the poem ...
Tears escape from my broken eyes. They hoover and then spread down my high cheeks; the salty ones rest inside my dimples. I let them stay, resting there because I want to savor the moment and the memory of your words. I want to remember the pain of your loved one; I want to remember the pain of all the people I know, including the children in my working world. I salute you. I salute your spirit . . . towering, bold, intimate, caring. Your words sift me awesome Retta. I'm glad I can cry for your sister. I'm so happy right now in this peaceful moment even though I can hardly see how to type these words of thanks . . . Your talent is a gift not made by hands. Retta you moved me to a beautiful place. Again, I salute you and your soulful mind. Keep writing like this for another person is waiting, just like me, to be blessed.

I can relate to this well. I have had suicidal friends, and my brother was as well, and it is very very hard to talk someone into wanting to live. I would rather have never had to do it. This poem brought back memories of troubling times. Well-written.

Pain to someone we love I think hurts us just as hard but in so many differnt ways.

This is such a courageous and selfless write, Retta. I always worry about how to cope with other's pain in a positive and helpful way that will bring REAL comfort to them in their agony. Words seem often to be so inadequate, but you have proved just the opposite with this wonderful poetic opiate. A wonderful contribution to any challenge on this subject. Your sister has not only your beautiful, pain-absorbing words, but your presence, love and shared memories to carry her through her darker days. Love itself is said to be a powerful analgesic. it did to me when we lost her. I still can't discuss it. I pray

This brought tears to my eyes as it reminded me of my mother who passed recently after a long battle with cancer. I remember the struggle too help her to enjoy her remaining days rather then focus on the pain. Thanks for sharing.
