i agree, disturbing...many are living this life as we speak. they don't care, even if it means their harm or death. they figure any love, even if abusive, is better than no love at all...a shattering, dark, terrifying write. i hope this isn't you.

this is so intense Retta, as only you can pen. Never allow any disrespect or manipulation.
You've asked yourself a lot of questions in this poem. You point them at the other person, but in reality, you have disengaged from yourself. When the heart gets to the point that there isn't a care left in it, it is time to bury the dead.
I have enjoyed this composition. "Disengaged" depicts the emotions poemized, and poetizes its message with words that describe many related disengagements - and relates to millions - of broken hearts.
This is so sad,when something ends that had no value to it, leaves a restless unfinished taste to it.Honesty can sound cruel, but its always best. Superb poem Reindeer!
Sometimes, Reindeer, what we thought was captivating love, just fades to indifference and we end up hurting each other. The hurt comes from the hopes that somehow shattered, when the reality of knowing this person changed our perspective. It is not so much that either person changed, but that, with time, the glitter that blinded us early on settles. We then find that the other person is not "perfect" as we had once, selfishly, believed them to be. In a way, that in itself, feels like a betrayal.
This is so beautifully written and my heart ached as I recalled being in this situation a time or two before. This is excellent writing!

love the way you ended it, it was brillant the way it came out
at first, you hear no evil, see no evil and then in the end, you don't care enough to decipher the evil. i like this ... the "just don't care" which obviously lends to quite a bit of caring, and there in lies the rub.
