Poem Artwork

Is it wrong to love the darkness?
To seek oblivion always?
To want to sink into the sea,
Let its cold waves wash over me,
Sink into the ocean,
And be part of the beauty I see?

Is it wrong to love the shadows?
To hide in their dark embrace?
I love to be alone,
Empty and cold,
Why do you think it’s wrong
Always wanting to scold me,
Can’t you see?

My world is different here,
There is nothing to fear-
Nothing lies,
Nothing betrays,

I must survive,
Somehow find a way to stay alive...
And I found it,
So why do you cry?
Don’t you think I know,
We will one day say good-bye?

If I don’t keep my world safe,
What will I have then-?
When you are no longer
My beautiful friend…

I don’t like the world of light,
It’s much too bright,
Those clown faces scare me,
The noise much too loud,

Here there is peace,
And gentle beauty all around me,
No one to pull the limbs from my trunk
Or carve their initials in my heart...

Is it wrong to love the dark?
To watch the lovely moon rise?
Is it so wrong that this is the way
I found to stay alive?

Later,
I shall retreat again,
And remember that once,
I had a friend…
But for now I need to you to see,
I have to save something,
For me...

No, nothing wrong with loving the dark - as long as you always remember that you need light as well.

I too enjoy being alone. It is when I can do my best writings and I enjoy my own company. I can sometimes feel very alone even in a crowd of people. So what is lonelyness? Your a master at these writings.

Excellent and magical write! This is a special and unique poem, Reindeer, about a strange subject, about a personality that embraces the shadows and shuns the light. It is a wonderful examination of the duality of feelings, those that are compassionate and understand this choice to remain in a twilight world, and those feelings that reject letting someone hide away from Life. I wish this piece were longer -- I enjoyed reading it and it sparked a lot of thought. Thanks for posting this!

Standing On My Knees by Pinkstone
