Poem Artwork

Between the sky and sea

There comes a time in every life
When days are clear and free from strife
Like murmurs of the drums and fife
Somewhere between the sky and sea.

Can you hear those drums so softly calling
Can you feel the waves resoundly squalling
Can you see that sun so gently falling
On a place just meant to be?

There’s no better time for me than now
To break the day and fill my brow
To journey where I will not bow
In that land beyond the sea.

If I knew what mysteries lay out there
Where daring and must do are there
Who would want to take me there
Out there twixt sky and sea?

No need to pack I’ll travel light
I’ll work the day and praise the night
Where shadows dare to mock my sight
In a place where I must be.

Oh to break these ties that bind
Free my soul and clear my mind
Where treasures wait yet unrefined
Far across the deepest sea.

To find a place beneath the stars
Where wonder thrives like golden bars
Where music flows from steel guitars
That’s the place meant just for me.

This is perfection. Rhyme and flow, wisdom in verse. Inspiring. I love this poem, Ed.

Ed, your poem is beautiful. It lulls you into a place where all is possible. I think you are saying where ever your are, it should be this way. I love it." There is no better place than now..." "Oh break these ties that bind me..." Yes, such freedom.

I don't believe it's there. Why I'm concentrating on the here and now. But, for your sake and the beauty of your poem, I certainly hope you find yourself traveling to that beautiful place twixt sea and sky that you describe where all your wishes come true.

I have my own version of the "Between the sky and the sea" which I am positive in my own heart I will see after I am through with my life on this old earth. I will be reborn.

There is something about the sea and sky, when taken together, present an overwhelming confluence of magic and mystery to lure the enchanted seeker to that "land beyond the sea" that you mention halfway through your poem. Your verses are rhythmic and compelling with suitable rhymes, wrapping the reader up in a place "meant for everyone." Nicely done. John

How utterly beautiful Ed...!
I think we all reach a stage in life where we need to
push that boat out twixt the sky and sea..
I was listening to George Michael sing CARELESS WHISPER as
I read your words...perfect....
And your last verse...Heavenly...!
