Not really a poem I don't think... ...more like thoughts.

Life's Script

Some say
You write your own script
In this life

If that were so
I would write mine
And you would be with me

If that were so
Scripts would conflict
Too many directors
Too many actors
Too many angles in the plot
The production would be a mess
The audience (you and me)
At best confused
At worst crazy

Come to think of it
Look at the world
Around us

No wonder people
Dream
Hope
Wish
Pray

That’s what I am doing
So you can be with me

Hi Regis, Are we the audience of our own script? It feels like it, to me. When all the dreaming, wishing, hoping and praying is over, we end up on the stage anyway, watching others watching us. Very thought-provoking and deep. Only you.... thank you for sharing...

You seem to always manage to realistically capture the best and the worst of life so gracefully within your words. That's raw talent plated with 24k gold skill.

Stream-of-consciousness poems are my favorite as they reveal what is really in the persons mind, in the exact way it flows out.

I agree with you, it is our desire to mold the world to fit our internal scripts that definitely creates confusion. Actually I think to be more precise: it creates unmet expectations. And boy oh boy, watch out for those unmet expectations when they come barreling at you at nearly the speed of light. But when it works, it is the best thing in the whole world. It is peace.

May I suggest a gentle irony, Regis? In writing this, and it's wonderful, indeed, you have scripted part of your life... the lovely thing is, you allowed us to see it.

I like the way you tied it together at the end. It's a bit of a quiet rant, yet that is all part of it, isn't it? Poetic is what I'd call it. (smile) katy xox.

Caught up into the disordered world that is at once chaotic, unfathomable, outside of our control - and yet, at the same time, has a perfect rhythm, pattern, order and natural "rightness" about it, even within the seeming randomness... if you are in the midst of it with the other person/soul that lends stability and reason to your "reason to be". That personal counterbalance survives - even thrives, I think, in the midst of all things and is more sharply noticed when life is "a mess". Sounds like the poetry that is life. Your words are perfect sanity and perfect poetry to me, Regis, as always. TY and bless you (both!!) Kate xx

Dear Regis,

As always you get wonderful feedback from your fellow poets here at the den and deservedly. I did notice that some people referred to this poem as 'prose' while others call it poetry. I know that the purist's view would be that anything that doesn't conform to a strict metrical structure or that doesn't rhyme is not poetry but I don't hold to this view. I think that poetry encompasses many styles and forms, including free verse which I believe this is. You are very gifted Regis and your poetry always inspires me.

You pose an interesting question. Do we write our own scripts? I think that this might hold true to a point but there are circumstances that are simply out of our control. I found it interesting that you use this analogy and then seem to refute it. Where old Bill Shakespeare compared us to actors in a play, you see 'us' as the audience. Is this because you feel powerless at this time? I pray your script plays out and that your 'mirajolie' will be with you as you desire.
