Poem Artwork

Withdrawal

Unwittingly
I have trespassed

A burden
To others
I do not want to be
To share
This endless darkness
Relentless hopelessness

I withdraw

I shall seek strength
In the desert within
Endless dunes of solitude
Though sombre shadows
Circle around me
Depression
Uncertainty
Anxiety
Vultures watch from above
Circling
Circling
Wait for me to falter
Hope for me to fall

But I shall not fear
I shall strive on
Seeking an oasis
And hope
For inner peace
Within
Asking nothing
Of anyone

I withdrew for many years into hopelessness, lving among others of the same, only worse off than me in their fears, etc. I helped many of them while I was depressed myself to get a life, or hopefully tried to help them not fall. I stived on, made a life for me and my Tom, provided inner peace for him, but it's over now due to God's will.

So sad but so true. Don't know what happened but knowing that you carry hope with you as you retreat and look for that oasis to get refreshed at; knowing that you are indeed wise; you seem to know when to do it. Did you do it?! Were there beautiful maidens there with buckets they drew up from cool, refreshing water that they not only gave you to drink but you bathed freely in? Hope so! Your poem makes one think but their own oasis. Yes, I would love a full day of massage with aromatherapy but I guess I have found my oasis on this anonymous, encouraging and so personal way to let it all out oasis of love from others and kindness. Thanks again, Regis. Love from me.

Ah, Regis, but you should ask. No man is an island, nor should be. Ask and ye shall receive, as they say, and I often found that to be true... even as there are times that we must all withdraw for a while into solitude. Balance, I think, is key. Expressive piece.

If Jesus retreated for 40 days, there's nothing at all wrong with some serious self reflection for all of this. Withdrawl doesn't always mean cowardice. . . sometimes it means wisdom before decision.

A great work because it derives inner peace from tragedy. Its statement is beyond optimism and pessimism but achieves the greatest firmness and civilisatory merit: stoicism. It is this which makes man survive or face the end of survival without the notions of guilt, fear or regret.

Oasis within... the primary and ultimate place where peace and healing are found, for there is where we drink from the source of love. We then are restored, and ready to walk again, be it across deserts, be it across lush meadows. And we are also ready to help others along the way. Without asking anything of them, who in turn are asking nothing of us - we, as them, are simply and gratefully giving, as we walk hand in hand. May this hope arise from that oasis found again, dear Poet.

So beautifully written yet such a sad write, Regis. Well portrayed. I hope this is just one of them writes and not what you are going through. If it is - Regis sweets, you are not alone! You have never been a burden! And you are very much loved! Anyway, I hope you do find an oasis in that desert.

God bless, Regis!

Great pain coupled with great wisdom, Regis. I believe all our personal breakthroughs in life follow an enforced solitude and withdrawal of sorts. It is a time of intense personal growth and change often... usually through times of crisis, it comes to us unsought, but ends up as the catalyst for character-building and development. Easy to talk about - less easy to undergo, but ultimately necessary. All the comments about finding the oasis within ourselves I think are true. We need to learn how to draw water from within our own wells as the supply of others can never be fully at our disposal when we needed, and we can never expect that of another person, as they have their own needs to fulfill at the same time. Your "asking nothing of anyone" will ultimately grow into exceeding great bounty that will cause you to be able to give to many, I am sure. Bless you and may your wilderness soon turn to a fertile plain, watered by rivers of your own making. LOL Kate xx

Regis ultimately the important decisons are ours alone to make as we have within us all we need to know. It needs only to be sought and pondered from within. I wish you all the best as you do whatever must be done. This is a splendid poem! It is facing choices such as this that create our greatest growth and enlightenment!

I wish you were serious about this.

With this write and the feelings you expressed here no one should stop you from proceeding with your decision. I would suggest you to Withdraw Regis without hesitation. I have done this before and had undergone tremendous pain. But in the end I succeeded. The freedom (not political one)I am now enjoying is the outcome of that decision. And keep in mind you are not alone. Peace

Asking others to help you can be very validating for them, Regis. No person is meant to be an island, we all are here to help one another. Be careful not to misread the intentions of others, though, because that could bring an end to the relationship. Some of us are helpers and the only thing we want in return for our kindness is that you heal.
Take care,

Your poem suits the title and the picture so well. The desert had just added to the feelings of emptiness and nothing is in sight. Good choice of picture for the poem and good use of words.

Metaphysically translates into rupture and death. Breaking the human condition, dies to all that was human. Rebirth to a nonconditional mode of being. And this is liberation, absolute freedom and inner peace. Wear sandals and tread lightly upon the desert sand, Regis. Unfurl a white shroud and trail it behind you to wipe out your footprints and take the meditational currents of yoga. Divinity and concentration of spirit, my good friend.
