I don't know much about the disease except for what I've seen in movies on television, but your method of format in describing it is extremely interesting. (I once read somewhere that all people have a touch of schizophrenia or perhaps even insanity. Do you think that is true?
I have been witness to this dibilitating illness
the fractures of the mind so split in realities
the self finds it hard to distiguish their episodes

I really do think this is what Schizophrenia is all about. So many contrasting thoughts and questions abound. Always paranois sets in each day. I really did each day have to say to Tom, come back to earth, I want to ask you something or I want to talk some to you. He could do it when I asked, but his thoughts were very jumbled sometimes. Higher thinking too high it was. A challenge to live with a person like this. I did til his death where God made him whole again.
I love the format of this poem! Many years ago I lived with a schizophrenic roommate... It brought me quite an appreciation for those who struggle with mental illness.

Very interesting!
When I studied Psychology in my university, we took the MMPI and it said I had strong "schizoid" tendencies, which of course means I like to be alone. (This is odd, isn't it? Don't most creative people NEED to be alone to be creative?)
Anyhow, I too can sort of understand the schizophrenic "way," for some reason, perhaps it is because people like ourselves, we're more open-minded. I've also heard that schizophrenics are more in touch with the world that we "normal" people cannot see.
Simple, but very powerful. And as always, right on the mark. The photo is perfect too. I can see I am going to have to spend more time here, reading and digesting all of your work.

I work with people that have Schizophrenia and you've captured what they describe and I observe. JM
wow, love the set up! YOu got your point across and helps us to understand others sad afflictions! If they are close to you - I wish them well! and I hope for happier days ahead as their on their medication. I had a brother in law, who needed to have Electric shark therapy- and he lived with us, Scared our girls. *( Around 12 then)My ex - wanted to be there for his brother, till he went to get some REAL help and medicine, but this is Sad, and bewildering. He thought he was God and ran in the streets half dressed yelling, till am Ambul. picked him up, he seemed to not beable to listen to anyone. It was SAD! and we visit him alot, but he was under often! He is feeling more himself nowdays - I hear. His marriage didn't last tho'- I hear he is happy - so who knows.... I had a sister in law with 13 personalities, and I was Super close to her - brought her to apts/spend fun times/ but all got fused together, with Dr.s apt/. over the years. She lived with us for almost 2 yrs.. I did relate.... Sorry- to go on Reg. Did you learn anything more tho'- ? Take care! I think the scructure of this poem is absolutely perfect for the subject. And I think we all feel a bit schizophrenic at times. Life is a battle field and can drive us all to madness at certain times. :)

Great descriptions and form to show what this can be like.
What a devastating condition this is. I know a man who is afflicted with this disorder and for him, even with medication, it is a constant struggle to keep the right thoughts and personality in charge. I can tell when he changes because his usual in-charge personality stutters, his others don't. I think it is difficult for those who have this disorder not to find themselves suicidal at times. Excellent write and the unique format drives the point even deeper.

Any way you read it, whether parallel, diagonally, backward forward even standing on one's head (the last one I did not attempt--smile) but seriously, you have captured this in a way that, as a short poem, leaves one long on thought. Congrats on an unparalleled piece of work. Gotta be one of your best ever!
In the early 60's when I was seeing this psychiatrist, he said I had a schizoid personality disorder, impairment mild. And that was only because I so need to be physically the girl I am deep inside. A schizoid personality disorder is a mild form of schizophrenia. But the only difference is, I know who I am and what I need to do to be complete. That certainly is not a schizophrenic disorder, at least not in my opinion anyway (giggles). Thanx for sharing Reg, others need to see this too.

I am quite familiar with most of the ranges of the Bi-Polar individual, as you may remember, but the schizophrenic still has some questions for me. A difficult subject, covered succinctly here.
I feel a kinship to all those who struggle and suffer with whatever afflicts them. You have found a new and unique way to expand our understanding of this condition. Excellent. Pierre.

Very interesting layout for such a topical subject like Schizophrenia. In Schizophrenia, I see a metaphoric impairment of processes to see, think, smell and hear...something about the world around us. Great job!
It is all in the earth changes that people are feeling all messed up. It is real. We must drink lots and lots of water with oxygen to balence the cels within which are feeling the changes. and walk in appreciation of what we have. Walk on the beach if possible without shoes and thank (fill-in) for the air we breath. I know I sound like a Nut lol but it is true we are in many changes in the magnetic field of the sun/earth, we are sensitive but we feel it as off! We feel what you say here in this poem, but there really is nothing wrong with us. We are awakening to what is really going on- on more than one level. Very creative write. Personally I am challenged by an ex wife who has this condition. A condition that didn’t reveal itself until after the separation.
And I find that even after the kids have grown and the separation has been so long. She still needs lots of help and concern. So I fully understand the tone and feelings of your poem.

good structure to this poem ... many years ago i worked in a psychiatric ward as an intern and found many of the patients expressed the same mental frame ...
I concur 100% with Peter, Regis...it is what ultimately caused my ex-son-in-law to kill himself in front of my daughter & the children. She scared the hell out of me, even when she was on her meds. I can only imagine the fear she must have felt when confronted with her own demons. A terrible disorder, very misunderstood. I think we're all suffering from a mass-induced paranoia of late, Regis. Best to find that core of rock-solid truth within...People with this illness can't differentiate between reality and delusion and follow the voices in their head, which are very real to them. It has an organic source and there are lasting physical changes in the brain. Usually afflicts extremely intelligent people with onset in their 20's. And yes, extreme paranoia is a symptom. Heaven help these people. Have to say it's quite differant from bi-polar disorder, which is distinguished by brilliant highs and increased activity followed by depths of debilitating depression and caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain and is highly treatable. Given the choice-I'd take manic-depression any day. And there are a range of personality disorders. I wonder how many people are mis-diagnosed? It's scary. We're still in the infancy of knowing about the brain and it's disorders. It hasn't been that long ago that mental illness was considered demon possession and people were put into cages. So the stigma associated with it still exists. Sorry to ramble. A subject close to my heart. I like your construct. Shows extremes with no balance, like going up & down on a teeter-totter...

Yes, yes and yes. My brother suffers from this dreaded disease and I am manic-depressive, can ya tell? ;) We're both OK on our meds, when he's off he gets totally scary. Doesn't know who he is etc. Me, I wanna just wanna be extremely manic. The downside is that I become a major shop-aholic and then the dreaded bills. So, I stay on my meds. For 2 yrs I've been faithfully on them and though I know the price for extreme mania, I still like it.

it is the most commonly dagnoses malady -- schizophrenia undiferentiated. During my formation I did a course in a pschiactric hospital, I still do services in that house of torn souls . . .
Very well expressed! It is one of the worst things that can happen to a person. Seen it too often and more often it ends terribly. Your way to imagine the emotional pain is very sensitive, only a wonderful soul like yours could do this!

It is such a terrible thing when illnesses of the brain rob a person of the ability to think clearly. This is a sickness that strikes a lot of people and often goes undiagnosed for years before it is treated properly.
This is n excellent account of actual frustrations that schizophrenians go through. It's just as toigh on their families too.
