Drama

 It’s all drama
They say
You never grew up
You’re a child
You cry too easily
You’re too emotional
You’re too sensitive
Deal with it
Get a grip
Don’t let people get to you
Don’t be such a woman
Be a man for a change
You can’t do anything about it
Stop caring so much

If drama is when the soul bleeds tears
So be it
Only…

…I’m not acting

MY ELDEST DAUGHTER GOT MARRIED IN 2018 TO A MARVELOUS MAN...WHO IS ABLE TO 'CRY'. I CAN'T BEGIN TO EXPRESS MY ADMIRATION FOR A MAN WHO IS ABLE TO S-H-U-C-K THAT 'MALE PERSONAE ARMOR', LETTING THE TEARS FALL. I DON'T CARE IF IT'S PRIVATELY OR FOR THE WORLD TO SEE! WHEN SOMETHING HURTS...IT HURTS! AND THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO THAT. A GOOD CRY WASHES THE WOUND, TENDS IT AND BEGINS THE HEALING PROCESS. I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES THE BLESSINGS OF A 'GOOD CRY' HAS STRENGTHENED ME(NOT BECAUSE I AM A WOMAN BUT BECAUSE I'M 'HUMAN')PICKED ME UP, PLACED MY FEET ON SOLID GROUND...ENABLING ME TO PRESS-ON. AND I THANK GOD FOR THE 'DRAMA' WHICH PRECIPITATED SUCH MOMENTS. SO APPRECIATED THIS SHARING, REGIS, THANKS. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

I’ve read several poems of your. I’ll post a comment here, but really this is more a compilation of feelings about your works and posted comments you’ve made about your poems. I like the your short poems, they pack a punch! I like this one because I can relate. I read where you had written what people say of you, that you “have an ‘obsessive’ personality” and I know and understand this well as it has been said of me numerous times. I also read where you wrote, “I cannot even think straight when I think of you”…I think it must be your passion that they speak of, many an accomplished poet have been known to exhibit this kind of personality. I’ve stop caring what others think of my “passionate or artistic temperament” because I can go places in my soul, feel depths that few are able to experience. Just like that unique snowflake you mentioned in one of your poems, you have a distinctive and irreplaceable gift to share with others that comes in it’s own unrivaled design. A special orchestration of thoughts and experiences of which the side effect is deeply felt emotions expressed through tears…and poetry. What a wonderful gift you have when so many people today are numb and unresponsive their own soul and life! So I leave you with these words, a hope and a promise. There is one that knows and has counted your every tear.
“Record my lament; list my tears on your scroll are they not in your record? Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me.” Psalm 56: 8,9 (NIV) & “…He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Revelation 21:4 (NIV)

Your poem reminds me that we shouldn't care what others think. My son is 16 and asked me just last night, did Dad ever cry in front of you? His father died 10 years ago. I told him yes, a few times. I asked if he needed to cry and he said no, I just wanted to know. My son has cried many times since the loss of his father and I have had to encourage him each time to let it out. I don't want him growing up thinking that grown men can't cry. Like anyone else, I always feel better after a good cry.

Hi, Regis. You're a beautiful soul, and I like this poem. Its sentiment reminds me of a poem I wrote that I've removed from the Den called "Extremes."

You scream and you scream
NO DRAMA!
Then what is it you crave—
False peace of a flat line?
My advice to you, coward,
get thee to a grave.

© Copyright April 2005 Nordette

When people are quick to call others "Drama Queens/Kings," I tend to think those people simply don't want to deal with the emotional confusion of another. In fact, they are often out of touch with their own feelings; consequently, shows of emotion make them uncomfortable. The same goes when always telling others to "grow up." I especially don't understand this when the person claims to care about the other person. You say you care about that person, but you don't want them to show their emotions? Granted, some people do like the attention they get from emotional upheaval, but just as frequently it's that the person screaming, "Drama!" suffers from a low emotional quotient, low E.Q. as opposed to low I.Q.. Both are a hindrance.

In addition, people like to think that they're the normal one. As a result, if they tend to rarely shed tears, they are more likely to assume that someone who's prone to tearfulness only wants attention, is abnormal, or has some sort of character flaw. They see themselves as mature and level-headed and the other person as childish, dramatic, or unstable. I wonder if it ever occurs to them that it's quite possible they are the ones with the problem or that they are cold and lack compassion..

Self-examination benefits us all, the tender-hearted and the so-called mature.

Be who you are, and detach from those who don't accept you as you are. Love and bliss to you. ~~Nordette

How often as a boy I was told to stop crying, boys don't cry, you're a sissy. How often when I was angry only to have it described as an unnecessary tantrum. Yet, when my sister cried she was comforted, and when she was angry, she was asked what was wrong. It is hard for boys in this drama, Regis. I relate to your poem fully not just as a piece of well written prose, but it also reminded me of the way society expects boys in particular to behave. No wonder many boys when they become men hit the bottle and become insular, too frightened to open up lest they be accused of being 'a woman'. Men do have feelings, not a mix of feminine or masculine, but masculine: masculine compassion, masculine love as well as masculine anger etc. Yes, maleness is a perpetual drama because we have to act contrary to how we feel inside. Who wrote the damn script?

Great poem, Regis. No one can really understand another's pain, unless they have themselves experienced it. A heart that's cold--emotionless, cannot understand tears...tears are healing, whether shed by male or female. If cold-hearted individuals should try to squeeze out a tear or two, then perhaps they would understand the difference between drama (as in acting fiction) or reality (non-fiction pain). Don't know if that makes any sense! :) In the end, if crying is what is needed at the moment, cry away. That's the choice you made...it's nobody's business if you do, or why do it.

Men cry too
we are sensitive too
we bleed, we smile and we die

I think there is nothing more beautiful than a man's tears Reg. It shows character, and bravery. It takes guts to let it all hang out. This is an honest, gut wrenching write. Don't change a thing about YOU. Auf le Prof is a wonderful guy, and one I'm honored to call my friend. I'd not want you to be any other way. Love, Michelle

Oh Regis, thank you so much, I cried at least three or four times this week alone, seeing my sweet sister in law who has suffered so much in this world lying on a death bed of wires, bags, needles oxygen, a women of 45 aged by sickness to look like a women of 80. Perhaps it is that as writers we are more sensitive to feelings and caring and if we are so be it. My tears are the price I pay for the love I have enjoyed over the years and to me they are a small price. I too have been told the same kind of things as you my friend so no you are not alone. As I now grow older I care less and less what people think though, when my brother who was my best friend died suddenly I wept at his bedside nightly till I had to turn off the switch, I cried openly at his funeral service and could not and I didn't even bother to try to stop as they lowered his casket. If we are to be ridculed for having hearts that care then the ones who are the ridiculers are the ones to be pitied. Thank you for saying what many have know but were afraid to admit.

Drama is a vehicle to spread manure. Little is gained if you don't plow manure (drama) under the ground to enrich the ground. After awhile, the drama needs plowed again, if you get my manure drift.
WARNING: DRAMA, do not use Sweetwater's words for careless drama, the sight of persons throwing manure at one another is a little ridiculous. Like manure, if you leave drama on the ground for awhile, it will smell a little and dry up. Plow the drama underneath, Reg...watch it sprout a new soul come springtime...

It's amazing the wacky conditioning we receive.
This will resonate with many. Grieving is part of the process.

Good one, Regis.
