Was it brought on by the Rufous Hummingbird
chirping at its reflection in my window?
The radiantly coloured fountain of flowers
pouring from the hanging basket by the door?
The sweet scent of cedar
lingering in the mid summer air?
The gentle touch of morning sun
on jewelled dew laden grasses?
The ethereal song of a Swainson's Thrush
descending from a nearby stately hemlock?
The giddy greeting of a Black-Capped Chickadee
calling from the nearby emerald holly tree?
The soaring Red-tailed Hawk
Seeking awakening thermals?
And so much, so much more...?
No.
What made my heart flutter
like the wings of the swallow-tailed butterfly
flitting over the gaudy hydrangeas by the fence
was none of those wonders.
It was a wish of seeing you today
that sadly, swiftly faded like a soundless sigh.
I was looking for just the right something to end my day and this found me. I know the feeling well and am once again carrying it with me as I find my way to bed. Sweet dreams, Regis.
Countless marvels come from your writes, Regis, and I love this one, the photo I love also, it's just a tremendously uplifting poem even with the sighing ending.
Loved the butterfly effect, and sometimes, the simplest things can be that flash of joy. How amazing life is. Now that things are going alittle bit better in my life, and I have finally gotten my computer back, I can read, post and be with my AD friends again, missed you guys and hope that we can make a reconnection,,,coni lea
To have such an acclamation of descriptive joy fade into the end of ultimate disappointment is very, very poignant, my friend, but you did it well, and it achieves very, very well poetically...Jerry
and I thought of you...
as I always do dear & sweet friend
I will be in Canada in September for my birthday!
BIG SMILE!!!

Most often we have that "Flash of Joy" sadly it doesn't always last. What you do have is the lovely memories that made your heart flutter. Beautiful imagery Regis! Of course, I am a little sad because I wanted a happy ending and not a soundless sigh...If only all of all wishes could come true! Take care, ~Chessly
Love gets all the antennae on high alert so that every moment seems like an absolute lifetime and our powers of observation are straining at the bit, noticing everything and magnifying the whole. Such beautiful observations of the natural world around us here as well as crystal rivers of pure and heartfelt emotion that leaves your reader with a sympathetic and totally comprehending sigh. Like a kingfisher's rainbow flash is this joy which always leaves us both breathless with the privilege of having witnessed and experienced it, AND with always the wistful desire for more and time hanging heavy until the next time. Lovely writing, dear Regis. xx
The endgame was a disappointment but overall the day sounds like a success. No fires, tornadoes, or dreaded olympic tourists. Hummers are noisy little critters despite their pint size proportions and they amuse me to no end. Patrick
Regis, may you soon know the return of that "Flash of Joy". May you harbor it long and sweet my dear friend. Your insight into the phenomena of personal joy is unique and so poetic Regis. I am thankful it was your choice to share it with me. May joy return to you this day and cradle you in the arms of peace and love. Jon Michael
I have missed this expressive side of you, Regis. When you are truly 'on' your mixture of nature and relationship tugs on all of the senses. Beautifully written. Love and Hugs,
Sheila
good one Reg, fun and joy do have away of flashing on by, can't seem to get enough, cheers

Such a sadness: one that, with all the beauty in the world thrashing at the eyes, still awaits the one who never came or comes. Those beautiful things seem to be less beautiful, and crowd the passionate thoughts with wishes--wishes to share them with "the one". I love this one, Regis. In this, you have made me feel like crying; it is a very emotional writing for me.
Beautifully thought through, Regis, and fine sustained natural imagery...and the final personal 'twist' smacks the reader with its vibration, a vibration that lingers.
This was such an upbeat poem poem Reg only to have your toe dashed against a rock because what made you all so upbeat was a fading wish. I know exactly what that feels like. This has a real message dear brother and I know first hand the emotions it took to share this. Thank you.
Love & hugs,
Barbie
PS: I am not at my home computer but using a patient loaner laptop #20 at Munson Medical Center, in Traverse City. Michigan. I am having a stent put in my heart tomorrow (today) at 11 am. I ghave been here a week and went through all kinds of tests, but if everythibg goes well I should be home by Sunday.
I was wondering what can generate such a joy and when i came to the line "It was a wish of seeing you today" I knew I was at the peak of a beauty mountain, only to fall to the next line " that sadly, swiftly faded like a soundless sigh", then I started listening to the sound of silence for a while before my fingers touched the keyboard. Regis, I truly admire your works and the way you smith the words or articulate verses to create a strand of emotions that can take the reader to heights of elation.
So I click on your poem and read it and all the lines are the same size but then I click to log in to AD so I can post a review and all the lines after the 'holly tree?' line are smaller in size. Is that some PC glitch or are the lines meant to be of different sizes toward the end and I just didn't notice that the first time around? Personally I think they should all be the same size otherwise the appearance is not that good.
I know that you have decided to punctuate this poem and grammatically it seems correctly done but for some reason I am not a fan of all those question marks. I find them distracting somehow. Not distracting to the point where the read is interrupted or made less enjoyable, but just somehow distracting.
Content-wise it is an incredible poem. It's got great imagery and plenty of emotion. And just when I think this poem is entirely dedicated to nature there is a twist in the end. Very effectively done.
The flow is as smooth as a gentle stream on a warm spring day. Such a treat to read this poem. Pure enjoyment. I think it is one of your best!
Intelligent and brilliant write my friend* In the end it was such a telling contrast!

I was travelling along with the splendour and gayety of your verse Regis, then the last two lines hit me with sadness. Nevertheless, the imagery in this poem is fantastic!
Bless you Regis,

But thank God for all the glorious beauty you speak of that surrounds us as it helps to get us through the moments -- whether it be minutes, hours, days, or even longer -- when our hearts are empty and longing for the one we love. Beautiful, as always, Regis ~Hugs and Love, Elizabeth
Regis...I agree with Peter. This is incredible poetry! As I was reading, I was reminded you are a man who is so alive, in tune, and a piece of all that surrounds you. After the "no," in the sadness, I discover you are so much more than all the above. Incredible poetry!
Ah Regis- like a beautiful bubble- weaved from waving a magic wand- it streams into existance lighting up with all colors- and then bursts.
I so relate.
Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
