Birds are often symbolic of much...

Poem Artwork

Bird Fall

My lovely birds
fell
from the sky
or perhaps paradise

They were flying fine
for quite some time
about the sky
and in my soul

Pretty birds
I watched them

Blue feathers
pink
red
yellow
green

Iridescent rainbows of colour

But they
fell
plummeted
dropped
from a cloudless seemingly sinless sky

I look at them
on the callous concrete
and asphalt street
where they lie

Their blood-spattered feathers
stick to the oil-smeared surface
in the steely city sun of summer

I don't know why they fell

Their eyes
less life
tell me
nothing

Such beautiful birds with colorful feathers fall to a cold hard place! Everything was fine and then.......bam! This reminds me of some occurences in life. You looked for answers in their lifeless eyes...........I get the visual!

Love ya!

A very sad vision, whether real or imagined. Your words make it easy to imagine all those colorful feathers, full of life and then the dark surface of the road where they lie, dead. Thank you for sharing, Regis.

Dear Regis,

I assume you are referring to the thousands of birds dropping from the skies in the midwest--look to our own scientists messing around with nature--because they can. If you did mean that it was a lovely eulogy to them.

This is such a great lament to the end of life and beauty. I often question why things like this happen and what was done to cause such destruction and death. Sadly many of my answers come in the form of human actions. Nicely done.

Regis, a metaphor expressing our grief and dismay for the loss of those beautiful things in life we hold so dear. "Their eyes less life tell me nothing" captures the mystery of their passing. I bid you love and peace my dear friend. Jon Michael

This is one that touches my heart, and I love that it is a bit offbeat, so original and wonderfully lyrical.

Extremely different from anything you've been writing lately, Regis. For me, there's a sense of someone letting you down, as if that person were not who you originally thought him/her to be. Striking imagery in this poem. Love and Hugs,

One could read this literally and find it sad and well-written, but I read it metaphorically and find it touching and emotional; like our dreams falling from the sky, plummeting to earth to spatter on the streets...I suppose it is up to us to catch them then. Beautifull written, Regis. Love and hugs, Elizabeth

They poison pigeons, don't they? I think you are referring to birds seeing their own image in high rise glass and, seeing an enemy, attack with deadly consequences when they break their necks.

Tragic.
