Badge of Love

I have been told time and place and again
There’s no such thing as love
The love I aspire to
It is an illusion for romantic fools like me
It is better to see
The reality

But like a fool
I wear my feelings like an icon
Openly vulnerable
Where this insignia I display
Is often slapped and punched and kicked
Even spat at with unprovoked disdain
And downright hatred

Romance is the scene
The scene on the stage
And love is the backdrop
And when the curtain falls
The story ends
And I am left with a tattered badge
Wondering who will mend it

I was promised a rainbow
But I got another storm in its place
She promised me love
But I got excuses instead

I was left lost when love was a mirage

So therapeutic
That you have been the exception
Thank you

Regis,
i really do hope you've found the exception but there's no deus ex machina out there to promise us rainbows. What we do we are responsible for, and love has to be worked at. Romance is fine and exciting, but ultimately it's respect that underpins the deal. And that takes thought and compassion. Hollywood's fun, but it ain't true

Best to you,

Paddy

You found the exception! They do exist. Good for you! Good for me!

Love ya!

To even suggest such a thing is appalling Regis, we are loving creatures. Those who would take such a gentle soul as yours and make you feel in this manner do not belong in your life.

Such a passionate heartfelt poem of a lovely man who only feels what he should regarding love. Romance is beautiful, and those who cannot accept it are dark souls.

Know that the "mirage" becomes reality when it walks into your life at the least expected.

Such an emotional poem that speaks volumes. Thanks for sharing Regis. After being wounded time and again by people you've loved it, is such a welcome relief when a person comes along who is the exception, who loves you back, and not only heals the wounds but doesn't allow new ones to ever appear.

The whole while I felt as though you didn't agree with the naysayers and that speaks volumes. A romantic at heart can be wounded, but not obliterated. We bounce back:) hugs,

Simply beautiful...I also wear my heart on my sleeve, and vow to keep it a little more well hidden, but we are who we are...I try and accept Love in the unique way it is given nowadays, for it will not be pinned down..and to try, I have found never works..Thank goodness for exceptions...Wishing you the best always,
Diana...

I don't think you could describe unrequited love any better than this Regis, and to have someone in your life to pick up the pieces of the badge and sew them back together with love, is a miracle that should always be cherished. There is such a thing called love, but it is a fleeting shadow in the night, caught by the north wind, and strewn all over God's creation. The person who can catch this love, is indeed very lucky and well blessed. Thank you for sharing this thought provoking poem.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love and who love you, and be with you always and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))) your little sister, Barbie

Romance and love are for noble souls, Reg, so little surprise that the modern world is loveless and soulless - it takes guts to be soft!! ha!

Well ..Better to have loved than to not have loved at all..
Keep blessing us with such glorious poetry Regis..

The biggest problem with love is that everyone experiences it in their own way. Even within a relationship, each person feels it differently. We have to learn to cherish our feelings and not to expect them to be the same in our partner. It does not mean that they don't love us as much as we love them, they just do it in their own unique way and we must learn to understand that and cherish it as it is and for what it is. Love is very much like grains of sand; if you hold them gently in the palm of your hand, you can admire them forever but if you close your hand to control them they will simply all fall away leaving your hand empty and all of the beautiful grains gone forever. Romance is amazing, love is functional. Ahh if only they both could remain combined forever.
Take care,
Sherry
