A Sinister Psychological Thriller!
My 5-Star review in entirety posted at Amazon for 'The Ghosts of Morgan Street' by P.J. Mann:
Author, P.J. Mann’s Psychological Thriller tackles the major problem of homelessness head-on, shying away from nothing to tell her story with accuracy and compassion. Darren Lewis, the successful gubernatorial candidate of a major city, means to keep his promise to solve the issues related to homelessness: unemployment, drug addiction, and prostitution.
As the governor’s astute, ambitious, and savvy assistant points out, “…some of them will consider it a chance to continue to abuse the help offered. For others, it is just too late. Some of them are too deep into addiction, some others are unfit for any kind of job, and others simply don't give a damn. Those people will make your efforts fail, and personally, I wouldn't like this to happen, and I am sure you wouldn't like that either.”
Once the author succeeds in getting her readers to empathize with the plight of Jake and Patrick, two of her main homeless characters, the page turning begins from chapter 9 onwards. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end in fear of what may or may not befall the ‘Ghosts of Morgan Street’ who are dropping like flies.
When I turned the last page, I still retained my fears because many questions remained unanswered—as in life.
I will state that I found the dialogue unnatural and stilted, although the characters got their message across to propel a sinister thriller that is all too plausible. I highly recommend this novel for its realistic disquietude.
