DalRae’s Contemporary Short is a well-choreographed dance stepping through Vivi Jones’ grief in the aftermath of her husband Max’s fatal automobile accident caused by a drunk driver.

One day, in a fit of rage against his unjust death, she rampages through Max’s closet, tossing boxes of his brand new dress shoes. Amidst the mess she’s created, Vivi comes across a pair of her old ballet slippers Max had saved. Illustrative of a dream career she did not pursue for life’s practical reasons, Vivi views this as a sign from Max to take up dancing again.

The ballet slippers, along with an elderly gentleman and his four-year-old granddaughter whom Vivi sees at the school bus stop most every day on her way to work, have a profound connection for addressing the ripple effect of profound loss.

I highly recommend this moving story which unfolds with the grace of Odette’s opening scene of 'Swan Lake'.
