Owen and Lou, close friends from grade school until present-day adulthood in their sixties, have kept a secret between them for years. Any attempt to share the mysterious phenomenon they both experienced had been met with disbelief. They take a chance on telling Linc, Lou’s grandson. The college-bound young man not only believes the verity of their story, but the circle of believers and curiosity-seekers grows.
Author P.S. Winn’s intriguing science fiction story features wholesome characters in the small-town setting of Rockford where Cascade Falls seems to be the source of a similar mysterious phenomenon experienced by others around the globe. However, the General in charge of Arrison Army Base near the Falls is up to no good with Project 1420—an endeavor involving kidnapping, hypnotizing, and erasing the memories of those individuals who make a pilgrimage trying to find a portal.
I thoroughly enjoyed ‘1420’ for its detailed and interesting glimpses into the Seventies, strong ties between family and friends, budding romances, and the repercussions for meddling with minds.
