A Timely Story with Heart

‘A Taste of Christmas,’ Martha Perez’ short timely read, affords the reader a heartfelt glimpse into the lives of a Mexican family through the narrative of Natalia Flores. Although these characters are fictitious, they represent those honest and hardworking immigrants who’ve been rounded up by ICE agents, and deported.

Zeroing in on the spirituality of Christmas, the author realistically and sensitively choreographs the family’s sacrifices, focusing on their daily gratitude each day, especially during the holiday season.

While forced to leave America and return to their native land of Mexico, faith and resilience help the Flores family overcome adversity.

Ms. Perez, the daughter of a Mexican immigrant who became an American citizen through due process, entices the reader with a taste of Mexican food throughout the story, and includes a recipe for birria.

I highly recommend this short read which evokes compassion for those seeking a better life in America.
